Chaos players, what have you found to be the most successful way to take down enemy tanks?

Use Tsons, smite spam, through Magnus there as well. Mortal Wounds them all dead

If that didn't do enough damage, warp time Magnus forward with -1 to hit and +1 to inv save buffs on him and go nut.

Oblits + cacophony + VotLW
Above but with Autocannon havocs also does work, but more a fun constelation.

GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

Chaos Havocs with lascannons, mark of slaanesh, and endless cacophony.

Reduced a baneblade to 1 or 2 wounds in a first round of shooting. Blew it up next turn.

Against things with pesky invulnerable saves mortal wounds are needed: psyker mortal wound powers galore. But of course sometimes the powers don’t go off or they can be denied and many are short range. So beyond that a double soul burner decimator can help though might not get enough shots.

For regular non-mortal wound shooting attacks a double gravflux bombard leviathan is pretty dang good. They can use the vehicle stratagem to not suffer the -1 to hit for moving and firing heavy weapons, but not the crazy helbrute one.

Can’t argue with Slaanesh lascannon havocs either, perhaps inside a bastion too? Don’t forget your Death Hex!

I find that smite 'spam' on my thousand boyz is woefully lackluster, especially to bring down things like tanks. I'm usually trying to cast powers like prescience, warptime, glamour, weaver of fates, death hex and diabolic strength - I rarely have the powers leftover to cast smite, and when I do, I'm giving up something good. Hell, my orks do better smite spam than my thousand boyz, even with the wierdboy casting cap.

Especially on rubric aspiring sorcerers. I only cast smite on them if I'm 100% desperate. I'd rather cast flames of tzeench than do one measly mortal wound.

I've found that long-range antitank is something I struggle with as thousand boyz. Las preds always seem to disappoint. Believe it or not, one thing I find quite effective are autocannon forgefiends. Give em prescience, daemonforge, and flickering flames, and they've done good work for me.

I'm the opposite. 3 laspreds are the starting point for me, then I load up on lascannons wherever else I can (Helbrutes, CSMs, etc.)

It helps that I play Black Legion. CSM with range and rerolls is a very powerful combination.

Grav-Flux bombards are statistically worse than Butcher Arrays in every respect.

The only target Bombards barely outdamage Butchers on is 40man units, and the only 40man units you're going to see can likely be dealt with using almost any other part of your army.

What would you guys choose between havocs and obliterators?

Oblits every time. Far more punch and far more durable.

I prefer Obliterators, but Havocs are really solid too. Both can leverage endless cacophany+votlw to good effect.

Oblits are one of the most unreliable units in 40k. Havocs aren't great, but they won't inevitably cost you your placing

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I have been having fun with auto cannon havocs with mark of slaanesh and strats of vets of the long war and endless canophy. That gives 16 str 7 ap-1 2dmg shots that wound t7 or less on 3's and t8 or more on 4's. Against most anti tank targets i get 8-10 wounds on them. Not the most effective option to be fair, but i am enjoying it. And against bikers or lighter vehicles (looking at you ravager scum) you can easily blow one out of the air and put some wounds on another, if not blow 2 out all together.

Anti-Tank math check. (Assuming a Lord for rerolling 1s, but no FULL rerolls.)

Rhino
16 shots
112/9 hits
224/27 wounds
112/27 failed saves
~8.30 damage on average

Leman Russ
16 shots
112/9 hits
56/9 wounds
28/9 failed saves
~6.22 damage on average

8-10 is a little on the high side.

I am using abaddon for rerolls and vets of the long war for the extra +1 to wound.

16 shots, on average 14 hits.
Assuming 10 wounds from the 14 hits and 5 saved from the 3+ save - the ap-1 thats 10 dmg to a leman russ.

I am not suggesting its the best use. I think 2 lascannon teams and an auto cannon team is best option for havocs with abaddon giving full rerolls. Then pop endlessly canophy on whatever you need more shooting on. Use the autos to finish a weakened enemy target that the laz cannons already hit or use them to kill enemy elites.

Why would you assume you get 10 wounds from 14 hits, when you wound on a 4+?

Because i wound on a 3+? Str 7 vs t7 with +1 to wound is 3+. I am talking about vs space marine tanks like rhinos and preds. I said most anti tank targets and i also mentioned t7 vs t8 targets.

Vs a russ your right it does about 6 wounds, not enough to be worth it but enough to finish a weakened russ.

Quoting your earlier post because you quite literally said "10 damage to a leman russ".

Just gonna throw this in as a more unconventional "anti tank"

Run two Land Raiders with Kharn sandwished in between them up the board. Load both with 2 squads of Berzerkers of course. Now run a Khone Lord of Skulls up the board as well.

Don't pop smoke. Instead your one turn of shooting is 8 lascannons and 12 heavy bolter shots from the two Land Raiders with Kharn giving them reroll to hit. And then on the other side of the board, us Daemon forge strategem on your Lord of skulls to give it reroll to hit and reroll to wound on its hades gatling cannon.

That's a pretty nasty shooting phase, and your close combat is pretty scary too. Because it consists of Kharn, 4 sqads of zerkers and an angry lord of skulls. Best of all, make everything world eaters so its fluffy too. lol
