I am considering at some point buy a The Legion of Azgorh army from forge world however since the price change in Forge world such an army isn´t exactly on the cheap side of things.
So i wanted to hear anyone know how they are doing in tournaments, is the Legion of Azgorh mostly a low tier army or is it actually an army that, with enough practice, you can win tournaments with or will it get beaten 9 times out of 10 by almost every other army out there??

Poorly. Very poorly. They are a low tier army. Ben Curry claims to do ok with them in tournaments but other then that... you have to be a very strong player with some blessed dice to do well with them against other tournament armies. They are a tough army to do well with in a casual context.

I have a chaos dwarf army, I love the models, but they are night and day in terms of difficulty compared to how I do with my nurgle or stormcast army.

That is what i have heard from other people as well, but it never hurts to get a second or third opinion.
What of the other Duardins? From what i have heard the rule change in AOS 2 really hit them hard as their low mobility and lack of serious magic really hurts them in this new edition, that is much more focused on speed and magic.

I don't see much of any representation of any of the duaradin which is usually an indication that from a powergaming meta standpoint they are very lacking. I'm sure there are a few people out there that can pull some things off with them, same as chaos dwarves, but I think overall you will need to be a strong player to do well with them because the math will be against you in regards to having to face other optimized power lists that will have a lot stronger math for the points spent.

I have used Azgorh in two tournaments now and won half my games. I did better when I allied with Gutrot Spume and 5 Blightkings who did great at outflanking and sticking in their backfields.

I have used the centaurs with Shartor as general for battleline, also a Tauruk. I don’t think the execution herd is necessary actually except for helping to go first but those points are better used for a magma cannon.

Speaking of, magma cannons are the best guns they have. Take three and a daemonsmith. The Hashut Wrath Artillery Train battalion is decent and again helps to go first and while certainly helps the mortar and rocket more, still better to take the magmas I think. Daemonsmith power is great and his shooting attack is helpful close up.

Skullcracker Engines are also awesome, better than the Iron daemon in my games most of the time. Fun to kitbash either model if needed. Both have speed and goodnsaves and do good damage.

Centaurs and their heroes are very good though will require good positioning and timing. They used to be able to have great weapons and I wish they still had them but still good and tough and killy especially with a Tauruk ability on them. He’s beat with the black hammer relic I think though many others would boost him nicely. Shartor is also good next to a Tauruk and has killed a bloodthirster in one round with that. But if I had to pick one I’d go Tauruk to buff the hitting of the centaurs.
Tough to get cavalry all engaged in combat though

Drazhoath the Ashen is best used with the infantry with his anti battle shock ability. He’s a tough cookie, solid wizard, and fast. I like him despite being costly. But my finding is go cavalry and guns, or infantry and guns with Drazhoath. Infantry and cavalry and Drazhoath would also work but little to no room for big guns then.

For infantry I really like the Blackshard Warhost. Big single drop and fitting all your battle lines in there including two units of max fire glaives is awesome. Helps them all fight a little better too. Castellan is slow so I would put the thermal rider cloak on him to get him in ability range faster as the +1 to wound rolls vs a selected unit for your whole army is super good. Makes that unit go away.

I don’t have the Kdaii Fireborn though. They seem pretty decent with their run n charge and 3” weapon range. I like the D3 damage per attack.

I found certain missions aren’t good for my centaur heavy armies I’ve used. The ones needing to get to the backfield were hindered until Gutrot arrived in my collection and still the dwarves are pretty slow en masse. So maybe the fireborn would be good for getting to those randomly appearing or changing position objectives. I also suffered when I didn’t have but one Tauruk and one daemonsmith in the mission I think is called Places of Power.

Azgorh units certainly don’t have the boons other battletome armies have but they ignore the first wound in shooting and combat. So each unit in the army ignores thoerietically 10 lost wounds per game if the game goes all the way. That’s pretty good. Also enemy units have a reasonable chance of suffering mortal wounds if they fly and move more than 6”. Not a bad little bonus. And their wizards all know the fireball spell which is decent. Couple good traits. The Chalice of Blood and Darkness could erase some enemy wizardry too. Maybe I’ll try that next weekend.

I think the reason they don’t fare that well is because most don’t use them and ones who dont get enough practice vs a variety of other armies. Seems like 3x30 fireglaives should be able kill about anything at range. Except for friggin Stirmcasts and their “lets buff out armor AND our hits at the same time because : reasons”. Ugh I hate Stormcast.

Stormcast can also do the mortal wound game and the alpha strike game which shreds the chaos dwarves as well.

Two Legion of Azgorh players posted in the top 20(of 73) at the GT final a few weeks ago and this past weekend one of those LoA players got into the top 20(of 150+) at Blood and Glory, with another in the mid range point for that event. Thats not the be all, end all, mind you, but its fairly impressive.

I remember the GT finals results raised a few eyebrows, but I never investigated their lists and tactics. Its probably somewhere on the TGA forum, but I’ve not had the time to take a look. I know from twitter, Andy Hughes (the 2 time top 20 guy above) has quite alot of Fireborn. Wether they are in his army list or not, I can’t say.

The vibe I get from The Legion of Azgorh discussion on TGA seems to have a positive outlook on the faction. Weirdly of all the Duardin factions, Legion of Azgorh are probably the top dogs at this point.

If this helps, I’ve found the Blood and Glory LoA list that placed within top 20:

Allegiance: Legion of Azgorh
Mortal Realm: Ghur
Bull Centaur Taur’ruk (160)
- General
- Trait: Grotesque
- Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm
Daemonsmith (100)
- Darkforged Weapon
Skarr Bloodwrath (80)
- Allies
Chaos Sorcerer Lord (160)
- Runestaff
- Mark of Chaos: Nurgle
- Allies
10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)
10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives (100)
10 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (90)
10 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (90)
10 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn (90)
12 x K’Daai Fireborn (480)
12 x K’Daai Fireborn (480)
Malevolent Maelstrom (20)
Total: 1950 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 1
Allies: 240 / 400
Wounds: 144

Still searching for the GT Finals list. Something tells me it won’t be wildly different.

They got SIGNIFICANTLY better with the 2.0 update.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Rob and partner (from Honest Wargamer) also just won the doubles at Warhammer World with Legion of Azgorh.

My best bet to get advice from people that actually play Legion of Azgorh at a tournament level would be to skim this thread and perhaps ask more indepth questions here:

Cool! Next I will have to figure out a good conversion method for Kdaii Fireborn from old-arse style Chaos Dwarves (to keep in my aesthetic theme). Maybe old Flamer bodies.....

Interesting that that one army had no other Ba'hal units with the Tauruk, and no big guns or engines. I love Skar Bloodwrath, and the Sorcerer Lord is great for the Daemonic Power, good on anything.

Ha!

I’m listening to it right now and thought to put it into this thread once I was done.
