Hey all I'm starting an Ork army and wanted to get some advice for conversions based on Codex options and flexibility.

I have 6 nobs from the regular boyz sets and 5 Nobs plus a Warboss from Assault on Black Reach. I'm trying to get the best bang for the buck so I was considering using my Black Reach Nobs & Warboss to convert into things like a Weirdboy, Mega Big Mek, Banner Nob, Warboss leaving 2 leftover. The other thing I was thinking of was making a Painboy, Weirdboy, Banner Nob, 2 Meganobs and a Mega Warboss with the Megaboss just counting as a regular Meganob if/when the Megaboss option is no longer valid when Index option get cut by Gee Dubs.

I was thinking of keeping the AOBR Nobs as is if they are viable in boyz mobs with just Big Choppas instead of Powerklaws although I don't think they can take Shootas in boyz mobs. Plus I think the regular nobs in the boyz box are too little to be proper Nobs but that's just aesthetics and I'm trying to go for tactical options in the long run.

Also are powerklaws a must in 8th or are Big Choppas sufficient for Nobs & Warbosses? Advice please

Currently nobz themselves are decent, so units with multiple big choppas are great. In addition you will want some cheap nobz to take the first casualties, best option right now would be nobz with two choppas, you can just switch some arms around on the AOBR nobz for that. If you are afraid of GW removing that option, just don't glue them yet, the arms on AOBR nobz will hold without glue for a few years or so

In boyz mobs, you probably want your nobz to wield PKs, so they can deal some damage to vehicles and kill characters. A big choppa isn't far behind though.

In general, I'd suggest getting a box of nobz to add to your collection. It probably has enough bits in it to provide for 10 nobz and then some. You'll also get a killsaw and a powa-stabba out of it.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I'm wondering if a killsaw is out and out better across the board for nobz now they can all have them?

only 2pts more -4 and flat 2 instead of d3, 2 is the d3 average anyway.

I don't think the extra cost is worth it, as it adds up across the army. You basically add -1 to AP for two points, which might or might not matter over the course of a game. Any model with 4+ or less or with an invulnerable save doesn't care for the extra AP.

I'd just add it when you have points to waste.

Better damage stat is advantage though so if you can afford it you should go for it.

Yeah I agree. Sometimes you may have those 2-6 points available and very few options on the table to use them. I wouldn't bother with killsaws otherwise, in fact I even prefer big choppas over pks now that they're just 5pts.

How about the conversions. What is your advice?
