[img]I'm starting this thread to save my postings on the Mantic Forum and to stimulate discussion. art and model building for the Fishpeople.

Post #1: "Hit the Beach!" My United Neritican Marine Corps (UNMC) will have bases that show them making beach landings in the surf. I started collecting driftwood, shells and rocks from my hometown's beach for the bases.
The Heartpiercers and Leviathan's Bane will be mounted on rafts.
All my pics so far are WIPs, thanks for your patience with unfinished models.
Most of this is is also cross posted on the FB Trident Realm of Neritica page.

My Gigas have Warhammers and spears stuck in them. Lots of battle damage is to be expected when you are a yummy dinner!

The big guy next to the Gigas in picture #3 is my Coral Giant. The mini is from Privateer Press and is an Ironback Spitter.

Depth Horrors finally make the trip to the surface.

The models are GW Wood Elf Dryads. I wanted to get this done and posted on Veterans Day because of the backstory for the models. I bought them while binge shopping for hobby stuff the day I returned from a year long deployment to Kuwait & Iraq.

Nobody is owning up to inviting the Squidheads although several muffled mumblings of "That's why we can't have nice things" have been overheard.

Thull advance parties store food and supplies in ice caves before the main body comes ashore.

Thull Mythicans get supplemental income (mostly herring) as musicians. The hit band, Three Squid Night, works diligently on their rendition of "Ice, Ice Baby."

Nice stuff! The Trident Realms list is pretty interesting. I don't like the Mantic Naiads myself (except the badass demon huntress from Dungeon Saga) so I was thinking of doing an army using Privateer Press Bog Trog Ambushers, GW River Trolls, and maybe Idoneth Deepkin...

@DaBoss you should definitely try TR. It is a very fun army for people who like to get creative with modeling.

I forgot to post the Depth Horrors (GW Dryads) picture with their garments painted. I have no idea why I forgot to paint garments on the first batch.

I painted the Depth Horrors dark because I was thinking of the fish and marine vegetation I have pulled up from the depths while commercial fishing.

This is what I use to make the bases. The pattern on the card stock is from my brother's paper modeling site: http://onemonk.com/bases.html

I wear vinyl gloves too. It looks terrible to get fingerprints on the silicone while it is curing. I am learning that some minis, such as the Riverguard, are easier to work with if I glue them to the base before I apply the silicone. Sometimes I use the rocks and shells to stabilize the minis. I use mussel and clam shells to spread the silicone. I also use them for paint pots.

Initially I was painting the foam on the blue paper but I quickly learned that the foam looked much more realistic if it was painted on top of the silicone waves.

Here is some advice from Florian Manthey, another gamer:
"Looks great! Maybe a small hint how to get the waves more vivid. Some weeks ago I asked this guy (see link below) how he achieved his water effect. He told me that he used vallejo water gel mixed with a bit of white for the peaks of the waves. Didn't try it out yet but maybe it would look great on your TR too?
Looking forward to your project.
Cheers,

"You're welcome! To get the bubbles you could try out mixing water gel with 'Natron'. Don't know the english word to be honest. Maybe it is available in Alaska too. Normally you use it for baking but it's also a great and cheap to use for snow. It's not the same as baking powder. When I created snow (mixing Natron, PVA glue, water, acrylic white and a bit blue with the old liquid GW water effect) some bubbles occured (guess because of Natron + water effect) before the mixture got hard. It's kind of tricky to get the right mixture, I just played around with it. When it got hard it also gleamed a bit what also could be useful when it comes to create waves. I would recommend to try out mixing stuff together and just figure stuff out. But the easiest way should be water gel + a bit of white.

PS: just figured out that Natron = baking soda

Here is a pic of the Natron package: https://www.pumperszene.com/attachme...9-natron2-png/
And here a pic of the old liquid GW water effect: https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon....CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg "

Riverguard Troop #1. I haven't painted with red very often over the years but felt like giving it a try. I also put red ink over the gold, first time to try that.

Really struggled with their spindly arm to shoulder connections, next time I will assemble them with the shields touching the ground to provide a third point of contact and will put them on the base sooner. I really wish these were plastic.

Some battle pics. My son was home for the holidays so we played many Destiny of Kings scenarios, including the skirmish, for which we did Vanguard (Alpha rules) in a dungeon crawler with tiles from Legend of Drizzt and Heroquest.

The first pic shows Thull getting distracted from a battle to chow on some fallen warriors. Disgusting table manners but they are good fighters.

[img]Naiad Centurion WIP. I have a collection of large barnacles that I found on a local beach and I have been using this as his "mount". The mini is a conversion from Perry Brothers 25mm English Civil War. Haven't decided if that mini will be the Centurion or if I will use a conventional Mantic Heartpiercer.

Sorry so many of my pictures are posting sideways. I don't know how to fix that.

Knucker up! Really enjoyed painting this Reaper Frost Wyrm. I will be buying two more.

The spikey appendages are flexible and will not snap off, I was concerned about that when I ordered it. It also fits nicely on the monster sized base with minimal overlap. The Reaper blister stated that primer wasn't needed so I washed the mini and tried to put some GW Nuln Oil on it but wish I had primered it. I had to do several applications to get decent coverage.

These are most of the paints I used. I painted the eyes with Vallejo Polished Gold, 72.055. That was the first time to use that and it did not gum up like the Vallejo Liquid Gold that I was using for the Naiads armor.

I'm guessing that's the Alaskan shore your crew is posing on? Props on such a realistic display board As well as such a complete army, nice work, particularly with the basing.

Weird thing about the sideways images, a bunch of them are fine when I click on them ... and some that are right side up here go sideways when I click. Bizarre!

@Boss Salvage, thanks for complimenting my army, the Fishpeople aren't used to getting any love from Landlings! Yes, the pictures are from the shores of Kachemak Bay in Alaska.
I need to make a display board that is more durable than sea ice. I'm envisioning a display board that has an army of Fishpeople climbing out of the mouth of a big sea monster.

Naiad Centurion with mount for Vanguard. The mount mini is the Sea Lion by Reaper. The mount gives an additional 2" Speed which isn't essential with Rising Tide also giving 2" Speed but the height bonus for melee is very helpful. Plus, the mini combo satisfies the Warband's Rule of Cool.

It's a good sized mount, nice catch. Is the entire base cast out of resin or water effects or whatnot? Just admiring the beveled edge and wondering if that's paint or entirely custom.

The base of the Sea Lion by Reaper is pewter. The 25 x 50 base is a cavalry base from GW. I normally make my own bases but I found an old bag of these GW cavalry bases so I want to use them up now.

Nokken Troop, minis are Reaper Deep Ones. They are Water spirits that have a 12" ranged Breath Attack. Not a dominant unit but it helps to have a unit with Breath Attacks in the mix.
