Hey Dakkites,

I played my first game of Vanguard (Mantic's fantasy skirmish game in their Kings of War universe) and it was excellent. I fielded the elf prince, who is a brute. I used Mantic's metal elf hero (that might be OOP now? I don't see him in the store and can't find the figure anywhere online...), and while he looked awesome, he doesn't have a bow - a few times I forgot he could use ranged attacks. He's just striding forward, lightly armored, no helmet, with his sword at the ready. So calm and cool. But jeez, he definitely earned his keep this game!!

Any suggestions for a heroic looking elf, wielding a sword (or anything melee-ish except a spear, as spears have special rules in Vanguard) with a bow slung across his back?

I like the Waystrider figure from GW, this guy below. What's your recommendation? Thanks!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

Are you looking for something more like a GW elf or a Mantic elf?

I really don't like the little skinny Mantic elves. The elf hero (that I can't find a photo of...) is slender, but not silly looking, like many of Mantic's older elf models.

So I guess I'd prefer heroic-scale style elves

How would you feel about a swordmaster from Island of Blood, with an elf quiver and bow bit? I've got some IOB stuff I can send you if you like the look and don't mind some minor converting. How do you feel about shields?

Don't those guys have cloaks? I suspect I'd be pretty useless at trying to greenstuff a cloak back over a bow. If not, jeez, that might work - those guys do look pretty bad ass (ie, suitably prince-y)

There is also Lord of the ring stuff too.

the mirkwood rangers come with bows and some of them are running around with knives. could be converted into a sword.
also Legomyegolegolas and las

otherwise, Reaper miniatures model finder could help.

What about using GW Shadow Warriors?

I second the Shadow warriors. Its a great set. You can even make an elven princess if you want. The female torsos will accommodate the regular arms with a little trimming of the attached bow half arms. You can make a ton of characters with the set.

Aren't the LOTR figures a significant bit smaller than GW's fantasy line? (excluding the newer stuff, which is much bigger, and I tend to dislike)

A lot of the LOTR figures are awesome looking, but I seem to recall having the misfortune of buying some years ago and they just looked silly alongside my other figures. Like 25mm "realistic" compared to 32mm "heroic" scale. I couldn't make 'em work in my mind.
