Me and my friends are still in the early stages of 8th, concentrating on painting everything up rather than playing so not had much playtime so far.

From what I can tell though, everybody goes for the battalion detachment? Just wondering if that is the road to go down and therefore match my unit buys to match the required battalion requirement?

Of course there are situations where you run allies etc and it may differ, but standard would be battalion?

Dark Eldar can work as 3 patrols but they have special CP bonuses to make it work.

Hi and welcome to the game !

Battalions are pretty standard because they give a good amount of CPs, aren't as heavy in restrictions as a Brigade, and allow you to easily include most of your army quite easily. Then if you want a more specific list you can add some specific detachments like the Vanguard or Spearhead to include more specialist units. Depending on your army, at 2000 pts you can usually include 2 Battalions or one + another specialist.

Hey cheers guys!

Looks like I'm gonna need to do woke tuning then. Currently lacking in heavy support options. Are all battalions in the main rules or are there lots in the added books?

Nope, they're all in the core rulebook

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion & X-Wing: CIS / WWX: Union

All Detachments are in the main rulebook. The minimum for a Battalion Detachment are 2 HQs and 3 Troops which is pretty easy to meet. You don't need to add any Heavy support units if you do not want to (although who doesn't love big guns? ).

Remember to check FAQ's, the Brigade now offers +12CP instead of 9 and the Battalion offers +5 instead of 3.
