Looking to build and paint a second team and I am interested in the Deathwatch. Mostly I am excited at the fact I only need one box to play!
Can anyone advise on loadouts that can be built from the box? Is it worth magnetising arms etc?
Also, are the Deathwatch Veterans box and the Deathwatch Kill Team box (the one with the trees) different? If not, is it worth paying the extra for the trees and cards etc?

The two boxes have exactly the same models. Totally not worth paying for a few deathworld trees, in my opinion.
I just finished my Deathwatch kill team and I really wish I had magnetized mine. I put together a Sergeant with combi plasma and xenophase blade, frag cannon, inferno heavy bolter, and two guys with shields and power swords. It's a pretty well-rounded team, but I already have a second box on the way for more options.

Yes, magnetize. Especially the Storm Shield vets. While I've yet to play a game where I wanted a dual CC armed Vet, I have wanted to switch out between P-sword and P-maul. So now that I have magnets, I'll have to remove arms magnetize them, and paint a few extra arms.
As for loadouts. I've run up to 3 Frag Cannon. I'd suggest at least 2 and an Infernus H-bolter (for the Mortal Wound tactic). Have at least 1 dedicated CC expert. A Watch Sgt with Stalker Pattern BG is good for staying out of trouble. Have him snipe from good cover.

Excellent advice, thanks guys. Automatically Appended Next Post: Just noticed the 10-man Kill Team. Is this just two sets of 5?
Is it worth getting that box to get all the extra weapons in case I want to double up some time?

I would say that you will want some options. You want to be able to go melee heavy or shooting heavy depending on mission and opponent.

Yes and yes. It is what I should have done to begin with, but I bought the Kill Team Mordelai box, then discovered that I needed more figures just for the alternate load-outs. So it's cheaper to just get the 10-man Kill Team and magnetize.

Agreed, like I said I ended up ordering a second box after buying the 5-man kill team.

After 6 games with my DW, I’d say that the winners are:
Sergeant with stalker and ps
Gunner with frag (min1, mandatory :p)
Sniper with plasma
Black shield with dual ps (vs mass) or shield/pm (elite)
Combat with power hammer vs elite

Why would you ever take dual power sword? It gives you no bonus over a single sword whatsoever.
Sword and bolter or sword and shield.

It allows you to split your attacks. When you can share 2x2A when dealing with corpses (Pox, grots, GI), it helps a lot.
Or, at least, it always helped me a lot to kill more and faster.

That's not how it works. Any model with more than one attack can split attacks between as many opponents as it likes.
If a model can make more than one close combat attack (see below), it can split them between eligible target models as you wish.
You literally gain nothing and you're giving up taking a bolter with SIA for free (which is pretty sweet) or a stormshield (which isn't cheap but is awesome).

Do you want to use them in 40k as well?

You do not get +1A for the second sword. And you can split your attacks however you like with a single weapon. In Kill Team there is no benefit to dual powerswords.
As mentioned, the only real benefit was if you wanted to use the same model in 40k as well.

In 40K it's pointless as well - no extra attack and no extra ability to split attacks.
