Terrain is looking quite good. Can't wait to see your models running around on it.
Sorry your printer is down. Just in the last couple days got mine to print semi-reliably again. Twitchy things.

Yeah, the start of Alien 3 was a bit of a kick in the guts for the survivors! I’m liking how the terrain looks as a whole, individually it’s all a bit shonky, but it’s cool together I think

Thanks mcmatilla, the camo was great fun and dead easy too!

Here’s a few more Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps pics. First up is everybody’s favourite corporate sleaze ball; Burke

I think he’s the real bad guy in the movie,

Next up it’s Apone, from whom the game gets its name as he declares it’s Another Glorious day in the Corps!

All right sweethearts, that’s enough pics for today. In the background I’m plodding on with the Harbinger stuff, should get it done enough by the weekend

Thanks tzurk, though I think Bilbo was Ash in Alien we actually played this weekend. We started a bit late so it wasnt as enjoyable as it could be. First impression is that it was a bit complicated with all of the cards and not knowing what everyone does. We’ll probably play through the campaign but as individual missions rather than losing resources as you should do. I think we need more than one person who knows the rules too.

Continuing the Aliens showcase here’s Ripley

Definitely one of the coolest minis in the set, as you’d expect for the main hero

Next is Newt

A cool pose for another great character

Finishing todays showcase is both Ripley & Newt in one mini

And that’s the full set of iconic poses from the movie. I might do the Marines in a single post later in the week, though I’m not feeling the motivation to post them right now.

I’ve not been idle on the painting front, but doing such a big terrain project is slow going. The Harbinger is getting there, with all screens now painted and most details underway. Last night I spent the evening painting lights using Artis Opus’ OSL method. Not sure I nailed it, as it went quite chalky when I added the white. Using water on the dry brush is a great tool and saves clogging the brush with dried paint though. The flour I used was more like a glaze so didn’t take well to dry brush, so I ended up using it as a glaze on the bits that had gone chalky. Here’s a few examples from some still WIP pieces

Wierdly that shutter goes nowhere as the other side is a blank wall! I think my biggest mistake with the OSL was not going far enough away from the source with the early colours. That was semi intentional to avoid “light” hitting pillars and floors. It definitely looks better in photos than real life, but overall not a bad experiment.

I only have a few details and a couple of other colours of OSL to do. Thankfully they’re only on a couple of pieces each so it shouldn’t take as long

Yeah, Sir Ian Holm played Ash in Alien. Altogether a less likeable little fellow. You are really nailing the look on these. Excellent job translating the costumes down to miniature form.

Yeah, very much more the bad guy where Bishop is was pretty decent overall.

So last night I finished up the Harbinger of Damnation 3d printed terrain from Watcorp Designs, and tonight I had my very first ever game of Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team. I played with one of my work mates who revealed himself as a mini painter at our Christmas do (the other one had to get home to oversee building works). It was both of our first games and we had to look up most things we were doing, but it was good fun and I don’t think we went massively off-piste. Saying that there were definitely a few bits we got wrong, either getting rules not quite right or forgetting to do some things. The most obvious being forgetting the scout sniper had a bolt pistol after finding out his sniper rifle counted as heavy. That left him to face down my Sergeant with a Plasma Pistol and the Plasma Gunner

We took a few pics but I should’ve done one after each turning point and at the start, but to give a flavour here’s one part way through the second or third turning point.

My tactic was to go for each objective with 2 Marines: Double Plasma down the middle, Regular and array Grenade Marine to the bottom left and Auspex/Heavy Bolter to the top right. Here’s the Sergeant bursting through the door to take out the Missile Launcher Scout;

And the Grenade team taking up position in the bottom middle room

The Sergeant took full advantage of over watch to hurt the scouts in the central room

Clearing that room made a massive difference and the sergeant went on a rampage and got the scouts heading for the bottom left objective! Auspex Marine didn’t want to be outdone so he picked a fist fight with 3 scouts on the top right objective

The scout he’d punched fell back and he didn’t last very long when the Heavy Bolter Scout opened fire at close range

By the end of turn 3 the Sergeant and Frag Grenade Marine had ganged up on the last scout heading for the bottom left

We didn’t finish turning point 4 as the result was beyond question but we did resolve the Hewvy Bolter Fight in the top right room:

I won the initiative and fired at the HB Scout. Thinking about it, I probably shouldn’t have been allowed to target the HB Scout, but it was kinda funny. My dice rolls deserted me and the scout survived the took out the Heavy Bolter Marine

A heroic last stand to end the engagement seemed fitting for a Space Marine Heroes mini! Even if he was from Space Marine Adventure in the UK.

Fun was had and we agreed that beers should be included next time! It was also cool having a fully painted game board, and it got a few cool pics out of it as well. What was clear is that I needed a few more pillars and door sets to be able to complete the boards. We probably could’ve been more efficient with the wall placement, but a few more would make life easier. We might try playing on the Starter Set terrain next time and adding Tactical and Strategic ploys. I’m tempted to try another Kill Team too as I seem to have a few I could field from the Compendium, plus a few others if I paint up a couple more minis (looks at primed Poxwalkers)

Thanks for looking

Cheers, but those are painted by my mate @coleface40k over on insta
Olthannon wrote:Great updates Gobert! The terrain looks great, looks like you had a fun game.

Yeah, it was good fun, just need to find somewhere in Bristol to play and have a couple of beers!

My mate also printed out a few resin icons for my horde of Terminators and I spent a bit of time applying them over the weekend

I had to file them a little to get the icon square to the shoulder pad, but it was MILES quicker than cutting out card or casting them with GS.

I also got the paint sticks out and since I’ve recently being doing batch painting I fancied something individual. Looking in my primed box I found the Librarian for my Void Panthers. He’s originally the Blood Raven Librarian from Kill Team Cassius but with most of his iconography removed (his shin still has a blood drop as I liked the wings and couldn’t figure out what else to do as It was too big for a skull and eagle heads would be too tricky to get right.). I went with classic blue armour and yellow tabard as I wanted a bit of variety and like that the characters have different coloured armour

I’ll paint the metallics next before tidying up the armour. I might go quite faded yellow on the tabard to see how that looks. I’m also thinking his helmet less head might get a bit of corruption in it’s complexion. Mrs gobert is away with work this week so hopefully I’ll get some good progress then.

Thanks for looking

Well, I got a good bit of guilt free hobby done tonight and finished off Librarian Natorian. I decided to go volumatric-ish with his armour and I’m pretty pleased how it turned out. His skin got a light purple wash for a bit of corruption with the main colour being dwarf flesh, then subsequent layers getting some white. I included Green Flouro in his plasma, sword and eyes. The pale yellow tabard was pretty fun too, nice and easy with just gradually adding more and more white.

I think this next pic is his best angle as I like how the highlights on his legs turned out

I’ve gotta admit, he was fun to throw together and I love how quickly painting a single miniature can go. The painting with blues was really nice as they seem to have awesome coverage! Maybe I need to paint some more blue stuff?

Not sure what’s next. I have made a start on the second half of a 3rd Tactical squad for the Void Panthers but I quite fancy using Death Guard next time I play Kill Team. For that I need at least 2 more Poxwalkers and I have 10 primed and ready to go. I’ll see what takes my fancy on Thursday when I have a day off which will likely involve at least some hobby… I’m hoping it’s mostly hobby!

Thanks for looking!

Well my day off got plenty of hobby time to progress the poxwalkers and last night I managed to finish them off. Here’s the family pics;

And here they are with their cousins from the Blackstone Fortress

As the previous bunch they were pretty fun. I mostly used washes and speedpaints apart from the orange. I ended up going normal paints on that as the speed paint didn’t look too good. I then had some fun with yellow spots, Blood for the Blood God and I even popped to a Warhammer and picked up some Nurgle’s Rot to drip from burst boils. Lovely!

I’ll probably do another few Void Panthers to finish my third Tactical Squad next.

I seem to be on a hobby roll at the minute and made some good progress on the second half of the 3rd Void Panthers tactical squad. I got the metallics done and have tidied up the purples and blacks ready for highlighting next time.

I also finally took some pics of the latest Aliens AGDITC mini, probably the coolest which is Ripley in the Power Loader

I made a bit more progress on the tactical marines, getting the blacks and purples highlighted ready for greens and other details… not that you can see the progress in the pics. As you can see I’ve been getting the next lot of Panthers ready for painting:

I had tried some Colour Forge Gauntlet Gold rattle cans but I don’t know whether I did something wrong or the paint just is a bit on the dull side. It’s certainly nowhere near Retributor armour as claimed. So I decided to have a bit of a clear out and got the airbrush out for a bit of priming. The Tactical and assault marines top right are still a little dull, I think the ratio of paint to thinner must’ve been off for them, but the Devastators on the left and Command Squad shined up well and are ready for painting. The Devs will see me finish the Demi Company, so they will be the next Panthers, then I’ll paint the Command Squad and a bunch of characters to celebrate.

Whilst I had the airbrush out I put some silvers on the Guardian Drones and some old Necron Warriors I won on eBay ages ago and swapped in some modern gun barrels

The airbrush was struggling with the Mithril Silver, and I found a hard bit of paint when I cleaned the brush. It was probably time to put a pin in it for the day. I might put another coat on the dull tacticals and assault marines before I pack up the airbrush tomorrow.

Thanks for looking

Thanks Auston, Ripley is one badass, but yeah, the Aliens AGDIGC minis took a while to make it to the head of the queue.

I managed to sneak a bit of painting in today. I had hoped to give the airbrush another go, but gave up trying to get over the splatter. I ended up buying a new brush in the hope it fixes things. I went for a proper one from harder and steenback so fingers crossed!

Instead I did some more on the tactical marines. I got on with their green lenses, cables and seals, getting them pretty much done (just white dots on the lenses to go). I also put some bases layers and a wash on their parchments

Thanks for looking
