So, I've been trying to find games to look forward to this year, so I can look into them and decide if they're worth paying attention to and might be good when they come out.

This felt initially daunting, but I've caught a couple youtube videos [PartyElite, which I was watching for BFG2 coverage] in the last day or two with some interesting lists for Strategy and City-builders, but was curious if anyone knew any other games with good prospects coming out this year.
My list of things that appeal to me so far:

Strategy
TW Three Kingdoms

BFG2

The First Men (Fantasy 4x, real time (which for me is kind of... eh, and weird for 4x), basically take a fantasy race from their mythic origin and compete against others in the usual 4x style)

Driftland (Fantasy, another RTS, but the premise is interesting- form a kingdom by magically dragging floating islands together and expanding an empire

Here be Dragons (wacky sailing game- take a fleet out in front of Columbus to kill the monsters in his way

Pax Nova (sci-fi 4x with some gumption, trying to tackle the space and planetside 4x game simultaneously, basically a fusion of Master of Orion and Sid's Alpha Centauri. Would be impressive if they can pull it off.

Phantom Brigade (basically Battletech, but with colors that aren't just green, brown or snow. And pleasant looking semi-urban and suburban neighborhoods as battlefields

City Builders
Anno 1800 (city/trade empire builder with early industry and colonization and naval battles. Very pretty as well

Foundation (gridless medieval city builder, with some organic growth based on zones rather than strictly plopping the population and their homes. Graphics are iffy, and from the videos and screenshots it might be have degenerative gameplay that yields weird results, like five or six windmills just stacked next to each other for production efficiency that's rather at odds with the growth of housing and population management system they're trying for.

Industries of Titan (basically corporation management on Saturn's moon. But might feature ship combat and other weirdness, the management aspects seem a bit vague at the moment. Iffy on this one.

I've left off a lot here, like Tropico 6 and Dawn of Man, just because they don't interest me much.

So, what else is out there and looking likely for 2019? Particularly in RPGS, as the big ones (Cyberpunk, Dragon Age) aren't likely coming this year.

Mechwarrior 5 is slated for release in September.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.

Sins of a Solar Empire did this. I owned the original game (and presumably still have it around here somewhere), but wasn't overly fond of it. On the other hand, it did spawn multiple expansions. So *someone* apparently liked it.

At the moment, I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077.

Me too, I'm just not expecting it this year, despite some sites speculating on 'late 2019'. With something of this size and complexity, even if that were a CDPR date, I'd expect it to slip into 2020, rather than float a buggy release.

I just hope I don't need to upgrade my system for it, but I suspect I will. The e3 demo was running with a 1080ti, which is already a step beyond my current graphics card.

Bit of this and a bit of that. Scratch that, mostly shooters really and a lot of sequels at that..!

DOOM Eternal
Farcry New Dawn
GTFO
Metro Exodus
Resident Evil 2
Warhammer: Chaosbane
Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Sadly N1RV Ann-A isn't out until 2020, that's the one I'm most looking forward to right now myself.

Also looking forward to the contents of the Siege year 4 season pass, haven't been disappointed by the previous ones yet, so this should be fun as well.

My PC can run it... except for my video card, which would almost certainly need to be replaced.

However, it's coming out on consoles, as well. So I might end up going that route.

Sunless sky gets released (from early acces) on January 31st.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

I'm mostly looking forward to doom eternal and the necromunda underhive game. There isn't even gameplay footage of the necromunda game yet, they are being super secretive about it. I thought it was due out this year but the lack of information has me skeptical.

The mechwarrior game also caught my eye but I can only play ps4 games at the moment and idk if that is getting a console release.

MODS mate, its still THE best modded game out there, star trek, star wars, HALO, Stargate etc. etc. all MODS for the game, they also just released a new DLC for it, 10 years of dev support....

I didn't even think to list cyberpunk, I figured late 2019 seems too optimistic a release window. First 6 months of 2020 seems more likely. Games get delayed all the time in the modern era and for that game to live up to its expectations I feel it's going to need more time.

Iron Harvest is intended to come out.
Nothing wrong with COH (except the toxic community)
So therefore nothing wrong if done correctly with a COH with mechas.

Always keep in mind Yahtzee's Gamer Matrix.

Only game I am "looking forward to" is DOOM Eternal but with how badly Bethesda have ruined everything forever my expectations are nil. And considering how CDPR have acted recently Cyberpunk is a flat out "refuse to buy" for me.

Huh? What has CDPR done then?

Lots of 2-3 year old games falling into my increasingly frugal spending threshold via Steam, GoG etc

and maybe Cyberpunk but given how sulky my PC was with Witcher 3 I suspect that it can wait for me to upgrade

Maybe he is talking about the writer of the Witcher series trying to shame them in to paying him more money. Even though they tried to do that originally. I dunno.

DOOM is being developed by iD, Bethesda is only the publisher. I don't think you have to worry about them ruining it.

Also, what did CDPR do? They've done nothing but be an upstanding company as far as I can tell.

That's a more complicated relationship than it seems.

'Bethesda' is actually the developer side of Zenimax Media (who also owns Zenimax Online Media who do the elder scrolls MMO)

But its a paper thin difference. Functionally Bethesda Softworks does the publishing while Bethesda Game Studios does development work (Fallout 76, Skyrim, ES6).

But as far as ID goes, Bethesda/Zenimax owns them. They aren't just the publisher, ID and Arkane (and several others) were acquired by Zenimax in 2009 and 2010. Arkane may or may not been a fairly hostile takeover as well.

So Bethesda is potentially in a position to screw up Doom, but it would be financially stupid of them to sabotage their own minions.

---

As for CDPR, it could be a couple things, a lot of which is social media related (and some of it solved, as they fired one person (the social media twit) over it). But it has little bearing on the Games of 2019, so it could please go elsewhere.

I think the only game I am really looking forward to is The Division 2. I spent far too many hours on the first.

Division 2 shot itself in the foot by going exclusive with Epic Games. I was really interested because the first one was good despite the developers mishandling almost everything about it. But then they took a side and made a PC game exclusive to one specific service. So nope.

Well, it can still be bought and played through uPlay for the PC, but I'm giving it a pass, for as much as I liked the story and setting, the gameplay mechanics were in my personal opinion horrible.

Isn't Warhammer Total War 3 due out this year?

Also Gary Gigsby's War in the East II?

I don't think so. The last total war blog simply stated 'Fantasy team - preproduction, no news for now.'

If they're still in pre as of December 6th, this year seems unlikely.
