Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Looks pretty nice. Calculate is basically the replacement for Focus actions on Droid pilots, weaker but they can spend tokens from nearby ships. Ignoring obstacles and being able to turn in place on them is strong.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Oh look, another minimal content preview for minimal content discussion. Aside from it all being prequel trash I'm not at all impressed with what we've seen so far. They seem to really be pushing the idea of CIS as the classic "ace + mini-swarm" archetype, but that runs right into two problems with 2.0:

1) Weak PS. Nothing over PS, and the only PS 5 pilot is a large-base ship with weak repositioning actions and action economy. If you want to use the swarm synergy your best option is a single PS 4 pilot. That's a joke, PS 5 is the absolute minimum (and only with a significant bid), and you really want PS 6. It's funny to see FFG hype up General Grievous being able to arc dodge and stack dice modification when he's PS 4 trash that can't arc dodge anything besides low-PS cannon fodder.

2) Action economy, especially passive action economy. This is 2.0 and FFG hates having stacked dice modification. You're supposed to roll weakly modified or (even better!) unmodified dice and let luck decide the game. And oh look, a ship that can reposition into a linked focus and then "target lock" passively. I'm sure FFG isn't going to make that have some obscene point cost to discourage you from ever using it, just like most of the other action economy options. And it's probably even worse on the cannon fodder droids, where action sharing is going to bump up the price on something that needs to be as cheap as possible to do its job.

Hilariously, by RAW you don't even ignore them the first time. You flip the card when you overlap, but by that point the obstacle overlap has already triggered and will be resolved even if you ignore future obstacles. So you have to try your luck with the damage dice on that first maneuver to get onto the obstacle.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Yeah I'm with Peregrine here, other than the plating nothing really stands out.

I'm so glad I never invested any cash into the 2.0 upgrade packs etc. Adding in the prequel era has totally killed my interest in this game.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

To be fair, this is all speculation about FFG's previous design intent. Things are going to stand out in a real hurry if you're getting that action economy without paying the 2.0 tax on it.

Worth bearing in mind with the Separatists that they also have the tactical droids? title like thing (ref. Kraken) as well as their unique Talent 'Treacherous' which reads;

While you defend, you may choose a ship that obstructs that attack and spend 1 charge. If you do, cancel 1 HIT or CRIT result, and the chosen ship receives one Overload token.
When a ship within range 0-3 of you is destroyed, recover 1 charge.

We don't know what the Overload(ed) token does yet but that could be pretty nifty on Grevious when combined with the sillyname plating.

Another new article up for the CIS;
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2019/1/18/power-and-profit/

One interesting point stood out, "When a gas cloud obstructs an attack, not only does the defender roll one additional defense die, they may also change up to one blank to an evade." Though there is no news on to what they actually do if you fly through them.

Right, the translation of this is not Overload its strained. Being strained means you roll one fewer defence dice but you can clear the strained token by executing a blue maneuver.

Not liking what I’m seeing. Everything spoiled so far will need to be aggressively priced if the faction is to stand any chance of being successful.

I really wanted Grievous to be good. He looks unplayable...

FFG have announced a limited edition Vulture Droid expansion, available only at Adepticon;

Just a repaint of the ship all other content remains the same.

Yeah, you're going to have to watch scammers like a hawk with that ship.
