My main concerns with the list are with the wolfen. I didnt have the point the hammer and shield all of them but I did do half. I had a couple different thoughts about it and was wondering should I be taking shots on the shields or taking shots on not Shields? The 3 + invulnerable save is dope but I really want to get those hammers into combat so should I be taking hits on the naked wolves? I understand that it's situational based on the amount of damage the weapon will be doing for instance if it's enough to one shot a wolf per shot what should I do in that situation?

I decided to go heavy on thunderwolf cavalry so I have some high Mobility melee to get me across the board quickly and also to screen Bjorn and Murderfang. With that same train of thought I put on my other HQ on wolves as well so they can get across the board to where the action is going to be happening. I made the warlord canis wolfborn mainly because his asga is the easiest to pull off and it gives the wolf gangs extra attacks in melee. I put special wolf weapons on the leaders of each thunderwolf Cavalry unit. One has a thunder hammer and the other two have a pair lightning claws each. Should a I drop these to upgrade another wolfen?

I added the aggressors to screen for the characters and provide some Firepower during the slog.

My last question is really what units should I deploy on the hunt? The wolfen so they don't get shot at turn one? The aggressor so they can pop up close to somebody and put more fire power out without having to move in turn 3?

This is my first attempt at Space Wolves and I've been tinkering with the list a lot before I go spend a bunch of money on models. I have already picked up Bjorn, a box of grey hunters, murderfang, 6 aggressors, and 10 wolfen. Just trying to decide if I should continue the way that I'm going or if I need to make any major adjustments. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thunderhammera are your only real anti tank... my main concern.

Thunderwolves are perhaps better than Wulfen at killing very light infantry, but I find them to be genuinely inferior almost all the time. Also they are only marginally faster and because Wulfen storm shields are 1/5 the cost of shields on TWC, there’s almost no contest now.

I love Bjorn and Murderfang both.

There’s really no reason not to give the Grey Hunters a plasma gun. It helps.

I ALWAYS PUT WULFEN ON THE HUNT. Usually nothing else. I tend to run 5 man squads as ten is overkill for almost any target. Either 4 hammer + shield plus leader with claws, or 2x great axe, 2 hammer shield + leader with frost claws.

I prefer Bjorn with twin-lascannons if he is going to be hanging around the back of the line and you need some lascannons.

Long Fangs are soooo good with lascannons, plasma cannons and perhaps also newly point reduced missile launchers.

If foot slogging and not using plasma, Primaris Intercessors are better Tripp’s than the grey Hunters. Double the wounds, longer range.

The index wolfguard bikers are also amazing. Just 5 of them with storm bolters and storm shields (plus twin linked bolter in bike) are hard to kill and output a lot of anti infantry fire. I almost always rush them forward with bjorn.

Canis is good if using lots of wolves, but I find a WGBL with hammer + shield to be better in close combat and still provides the refill wound bubble.

Rune priests are very very handy. Cover save increase is very useful. Use with jump pack or deep strike with terminator for maximum efficiency.

I agree with nearly everything Erik says. Thunderwolves look great but they are expensive and can be a bit of a damp squib if not correctly supported with characters giving them rerolls and extra attacks. Without storm shields, I very much doubt they’ll get anywhere near the enemy army. 3 wound with 3+ armour doesn’t get you fair. I’d go for bjorn with lascannons as well. I prefer a shield and axe venerable dread with bjorn, he can stay just behind him and if he pops smoke they can’t shoot st bjorn, that can only hit you at -1 and a 4++. I have two when I can!

You have nothing that can cause damage at a distance and I think that’s really important. You are good in combat but there is a lot of stuff in the game that will hit harder and faster than you can so long distance firepower is a must. I take two 6 man squads of long fangs with a wolf guard terminator with storm shield and heavy weapon. You have two strats which make long fangs awesome, with the reroll of 1s as well and maybe ancient so they have a chance to fire when they die.

Wulfen always have to go on the hunt otherwise you’re opponent will focus all their firepower on them. This can be useful if you want to use them as a distraction carinfex but I like to get them into combat and they have a much better chance of that if they are on the hunt. If your opponent is a combat oriented army then you can deploy as normal with the aggressors and let them come to you.

Characters with jump packs are great as well as they can simply drop wherever you want them. If they land next next to wulfen then you can get a reroll to charge with th characters as well. Wulfen with a wolf priest and wgbl are amazing!

Too many wulfen and TWC. Take just a min squad of wulfen and a 4-5 TWC instead. Add long fangs and a couple of razorbacks or the gunship. 5 WG bikers with shield and stormbolters are amazing to clear screeners.

Drop canis, he's terrible. 3 HQs should be enough but if you really want a 4th I'd suggest a wolf priest or rune priest.

Give half the TWC a shield.
