So this is my first crack at a list for Age of Sigmar. I found the list building to be incredibly confusing, apparently upgrades do not cost points?

A couple of questions, the list builder wants me to choose a "realm" but doesn't specify what that means. I couldn't find it in my Battletome. How many relics can I take on my heroes?

Any advice or comments are appreciated.

So to answer a few questions for you:

Realms are “Mostly” pointless for list building for match play. Normally that will be decided at the beginning of the of the game before deployment. In most tournaments they will have the realm matched up with a scenario. Each realm comes with its own perks and what not and they can be found in the core book or generals hand book. Can’t remember the page.

You can only bring one command trait for your general and one artifact at the start. If you bring a battalion you can add another artifact to your hero’s though a hero can only carry one. Another benefit from a battalion is an extra command point. Normally you will generate one at the beginning of your turn but a battalion will let you begin the game with an extra one. Further more you can set up all the models from a battalion at the same time. Most people call them “drops” so you could turn a 4 drop into a 1 drop for example. This also has its benefits.

Upgrades are all free in AoS just as long as you have the model. In friendly matches I’m sure you can proxy.

Hope this helps!

Awesome! I now have a copy of the GHB so I should be able to find the pages. I'm really excited to get my first game in!

All the realm-stuff is in malign sorcery though.
Some criticism to your list: the lord arcanum on foot has a trait that improves the use of endless spells (again, malign sorcery). If you don't intend to get use out of that i'd go either for a Lord Arcanum on Gryphcharcer for more move and better stats or drop him to a Knight Incantor if you only want the wizard. Femember that Hallowed Knights can also ignore friendly spells, so rather pick offensive ones.
Also your list lacks shooting, maybe drop a unit of Liberators in favour of some Judicators or a unit of palladins for a ballista or two.
