As for the first time it's really well painted. I see you can take care of details, no "out of bounds" I'm not sure, you used only black wash for all? It looks good on ork, but try to expand wash palette. It's probably not the primary target for you if you are getting started with painting, it will come with time.
About the base, the top looks OK, but the side of base could be sanded maybe, to loose the layering of printing.

For washes, I used agrax for the clothes and metallic and camo shade for the skin, which other washes do you suggest, I started using the seph for the leather but it wasnt on this model. Great tip for the bases!

Really great for a first model!
I would recommend painting the trim/edge of the base in black to polish it up. It makes a world of difference!

OP can you make a poll asking weather people believe it is your first or not, that would be interesting. Automatically Appended Next Post: But either way it is very good

I'm sorry, I thought it was only one wash colour for everything, my fault (maybe because of movie, photos would be better).
Particularly any colour will be useful. I'm using gw washes mostly, both matte and gloss version (agrax gloss is f*%¢ing best). I think that gw washes are the only useful paints in their offer (exept technical series).
Anyway, good work with that ork, keep it up

I'm immediately skeptical of any Reddit post titled "my first model" but it is good nonetheless.

Well, gw have two kind of washes, as I said before. The glossy one is better for metal, as you will not loose the shine of it, but also as it based on gloss medium it have much better flow, I mean it gets the recess but it's also more intensive in colour. I think it's only agrax earthshade and nuln oil that are in two versions, the rest is matte.

As has been said before, it looks real good, especially on a technical level.
One improvement that springs immediately to mind is that you are lacking a little contrast on the mini; it's a little monochrome. When you have a blob of 20 of those little guys on the tabletop they can look a little boring if you haven't worked enough contrast into the colours.
Add some blue or - probably better - red into the mix I think would really help the mini 'pop'. A little blood splatter on the choppa is an easy addition, as well as some kind of red or blue detailing on that big ol surfce of belly armour. Maybe a decal.

Very good for your first. Looking back, if I had invested in proper tools/paints when I painted my first miniature, I would have had similarly good results. Orks like that aren't terribly technical to paint either--just base coat and wash. As long as you thin your paints and aren't sloppy then yeah, that's what you get.
In this day and age of youtube videos for everything, it shouldn't be terribly surprising to see good results on the first try if you have a steady hand, a good brush, and follow along tutorials.

Exactly that! a lot of people are surprised but this is what happened behind the scenes.
I actually have no artistic skills im the opposite I hated painting in school, im a software developer now. Ive tried painting a room in my house and it looked awful with streak marks lol never again.. I just did a lot of research on paint brushes [purchased sable], techniques from youtubers and watch them over and over carefully then basically wrote them all in a .txt file and tried a few out. I started kill team mid october and did off and on research on painting stuff (2 months) once I figured out all the permutation of my list I wanted to build.
Yes you definitely need the proper tools to get rid of mold lines, drill barrel holes, sand the model with needles if needed and HUGE HUGE part are the paint brushes. Iv'e got lucky and bought the best of the best, except for some of the models I cheaped out on and bought them 2nd hand and they ofc were older models with less detail and a bit ruined. (I got a lot of extra boyz for KT so it didnt effect that as much)
Btw ive finished a few more https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/769914.page
