The carton packaging many electronics come in (some form of pulp paper) makes GREAT buildings. Flip upside down, spray paint dark grey, light brush lighter grey, voila: instant concrete hab building.

Games Workshop terrain may actually be the best models they have ever done but they are on the pricey side. Red beam designs and TTCombat do great laser cut mdf terrain in a variety of styles and on a reasonable budget. Or pick up a bunch of foamed PVC from Bay Plastics and build your own.

You could also try Kickstarter as there are often terrain campaigns going on but they might take a while to deliver.

Or if you have access to a 3d printer then thingiverse has an incredible array of free terrain options.

Anything vaguely 28mm scale works fine, you would be better off having a look around and see what kind of style you fancy.

Have a look at https://www.gamemat.eu/our-products/terrain/sk/ It comes painted like shown, pretty much ready to play. Or as inexpensive alternative, which must be painted : https://www.ttcombat.com

I recommend Wyloch's crafting vids, some very cool ideas using some very cheap materials.

If you have access to a 3d printer, https://www.printablescenery.com/
products are pretty cheap and once you purchase an item, you can print it as many times as you like. I've got a ton of their stuff and it prints and looks very nice.
I believe you could also have them print it and ship to you, at an extra cost.

I've had great experience with

Amera ( http://www.amera.co.uk - great WH40K but especially AOS and Lord of the RIngs terrain)
Sarissa Precision ( https://sarissa-precision.com/ )
Wargames Tournament (more Necromunda / Kill Team / Armageddon than vanilla 40K) ( https://www.wargamestournaments.com/ )
GW's Terrain Range
4Ground ( https://www.4ground.co.uk/ )

And bad experience with

TTCombat (poor quality greyboard products and customer support in dealing with it)

Hi,

I am also in the same market at the moment as I am trying to gather/put together scenery for my board.

I have a battlemat already from deep cut studios, I love it.

I am hoping my brother can get hold of about £250 worth of brand new GW scenery (dont ask) but in the mean time I have picked up a few bits.

If you use eBay I would recommend looking on there, I picked up some jersey barriers which are really nice, I have eyed up a laser cut MDF bunker, but there is loads on there, just gotta be willing to do some trawling.

I also just ordered some of the blast craters from amera.co.uk (linked in the above post) as they are fantastic value.

Antoher thing I ordered was 82 remote control car wheels of 2 different sizes (16mm & 18 mm), cost me about £20 from an ebay seller in china, which I will then take the middle bit of the whel out, and will make a great looking junk/tire wall - which I will probably just hot glue together, possibly dry brush a little gray over, just gotta see what they look like.

I also picked up a good tip from Winters SEO youtube channel (check that out btw if you are not familiar) and got some rustoleum stone texture spray. If you buy any terrain that has a flat surface (particularly laster cut MDF), spray it first with the texture spray, then basecoat it with spray, you just then need to give it a quick drybrush some grey, brown etc and it looks great, with very little effort.

I'm seconding TT combat.

Their new gothic ruins are both 3mm MDF and 1mm Grey detailing board and are easy to build and a blast to paint. Simply spray in a texture spray first (like rustoleum stone effect) and then pant/dry done.

The resin terrain bits are spot on and very competitively priced too.

I have mainly built my own terrain out of foam board, which is fun and cheap. GW's current terrain is pretty cool, though.

MDF terrain always feels flimsy. I hate playing on it. The. Est terrain is a good quality resin. Gamemat.eu is expensive to ship, but the quality is top notch.

What I did was go to the Wayland Games terrain store and went throught he whole list. Th3y sell stuff basically from everywhere. Even if it's out of stock in the wayland store it gives you a 1 stop shop for checking stuff out and comparing.

I have both Mantic's modular battlezone stuff as well as the most recent GW modular terrain. Mantic's is more flexible in what you can build, but not nearly as sturdy - still more robust than most MDF, but the walls are thinner and the connections are less robust (clips). GW terrain is very robust with large areas to glue together.

Mantic does have the advantage that it's designed to be potentially taken apart and re-configured, which is neat but I feel the connectors would die after a while, and you'd probably have issues getting some stuff apart every time you tried. You're way better off just building them in a permanent configuration of your choice. Another advantage to Mantic is you can simply buy each sprue on its own, where with GW's stuff you're buying boxes of pre-defined sprues.

Mantic's stuff is also super generic - which is both good and bad, as it could fit into almost any sci-fi setting, but it's also kind of boring looking. GW terrain is obviously themed along the sci-fi-gothic lines, which could look out of place with anything but 40k.

GW's floor heights are also larger than Mantic's. The Mantic range is designed to be basically cubical - each main section is effectively a square. GW is taller than it is wider.

I've uploaded some of the 3D prints I am working on from printablescenery.com in my gallery:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-95199-59320_3d%20Prints.html
I also have some of the gothic pipes printed out, but they are in the basement somewhere so I don't have pictures of them yet.

I started to prime the cathedrals to get them painted up, but ran out of primer and now the weather is no good for spraying outside so I'll have to wait.
