So after some painting experience with a 40k Eldar army, I got all caught up in the new Gloomspite Gitz models and am starting my first Age of Sigmar army.

I really want to get that transition from red to black effect on the spiders for the spider rider models found here: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Grot-Spider-Riders

Can anyone tell me what technique is used to get that effect and maybe recommend a good video to learn it?

Best guess is a black base. Light drybrush with red, heavy near the joints. After this, a pinwash in the joint, perhaps a light wash on the underside of the legs to add shadow. Maybe a light dusting of an orange or yellow on the extreme highlights.

That said, if you had access to an airbrush, it might be airbrushed instead of drybrushed. Probably quicker and easier. It's practically what airbrushes are designed for. Fading colour, that is.

You could also achieve this with thin glazes. Start with red, add a (super) thin black wash. Wait to dry, repeat, but not quite the full length. Wait to dry, repeat, but not the full (part) length as before. Wait to dry, repeat, starting a little closer to the end tip of the leg. Repeat until you can't stand it anymore. Closer layers will result in smoother colour transition, but faster, so the colour fade will be a short distance rather than a long distance.

Those are some awesome suggestions. Thanks!

This could also work the other way around. Basecoat red, drybrush black leaving the recesses red.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

I'd paint 'em red, then thin down your black (a lot) with lamiam medium, gradually adding more black as you get further down the leg (you might even be able to get away with just multiple layers of nuln oil if you're feeling a little lazy?)
