I've decided to make a medieval knight themed team of guess what? Imperial knights which will likely consist of 2 armigers and perhaps one day a Knight of some description(I have a lot on my desk at the moment lol). I'd love feed back and suggestions for armarments etc.

The force is meant to represent part of an Imperial Knight household of the name 'de Kanin. Each mech will be heavily personalised with heraldry denoting the knight's social rank as well as trophies and tokens of their prowess and prestige, items of personal significance and maybe the favor of their lover. The mechs themselves maybe personalised to fit the user's preference. Also as with real knights their armament will be down to personnal preference (so brace yourself for something a bit more exotic especially for the armigers)

The household in question has many tenants that they call upon in times of war (like real medieval nobility) and each mech(even the armigers) is piloted by a knight. Also fluff wise if you are into that I'm thinking of basing it around an organisation of a 'lance' being a knight (mech) and 2-3 sections of carapaced men at arms (tempestus scions with head-swap would be pretty awesome). Although I do not at this stage intend to make the men at arms.

The first Armiger I'm up to painting on belongs to a minor noble named Sir Haerin Vastoral the Lion of Sebam. He is not related at all to the household itself, his family heraldry is a red lion on a white background. His family is small and has one mech, an armiger name Roche. He is a good friend of the Houshold, and although not a household knight has fulfilled his ties of honour to the family by joining them in this campaign. His Roche an Armiger is kitted to work largely with his ment at arms and is armed to hunt bigger targets (as he is the heaviest lifter in his household and he loves hunting)
Roche is configured with a more exotic double fire coilgun with auxiliary melta-gun on his right arm and a massive power sword on his left. On his carapace is a targeting system to better hunt and kill targets.

The second will belong to a minor member of the de'Kanin family who has better access to money, but the Armiger is designed to fit more into the Household's tactics and work with the bigger knights. This armiger will be designed to take on a fire support/suppression role against weaker targets but also be armed for melee. Was thinking about putting something like a surcoat over the top of this mech.

Not much Idea for knight, will appreciate rampant discussion.

Made the figures long ago, both armiger knights are acting as dismounted bodyguards to the noble(A high ranking Matriarch of the de'Kanin name pilot to a full sized knight suit) (hence the uniform armour) but have the right to wear their colours.)
Here is some pics of the work on Roche.

The second armiger (the de'Kanin knight) I have made a faceplate for. Drawing on a cool looking design used by the sicilian normans knights.

Just some advice. You may want to throw a coat of primer on them. It will make painting so much easier

Yeah I know I should ShadowCaptainMathius, but I couldn't help myself. It was just sitting there asking to be painted red.

Have decided that my Knights will be armed rather balanced between melee and ranged. Which for the Armigers means no common pattern can be use.
The second Armiger (as yet unnamed) has been armed with:
On Carapace mount - Anvil Industry MG42
On ranged arm (left)- Landspeeder assault cannon and 1/35 matilda barrel(autocannon) in a twin mount system.

Have decided to go ahead with surcoat idea using a thin layer of putty and a knife to make recseces around top door and handle (like this is a separate piece of cloth) to keep the practicality. Have cut weird little window off door (seems a needless weak point). Looks good, May do so to Roche as well.

Will add household men at arms to mech bases(I can't help it). Roche has 1 jet packing figure who is ready to be primed and painted.
de' Kanin Armiger will have 2 power armoured soldiers(waiting on Anvil Industry armoured legs and arms).

Decorated de'Kanin Armiger's paldrons with floral patterns and blingy trim using green stuff.Because knights loved their floral and bling. Gave carapace it's embroidered cloth cover(surcoat inspired) smoothed recesses on top of head. Added the details to right leg and smoothed over some recesses in armour plating. Going to add plastic details next.

I decided that whilst I am reviving all my old threads I might actually update this one too.
Firstly Lupus and Roche are, and have been for some time completed!

Roche is designed more as a hunter, the armiger fighting harness is equipted with a targeter to quickly aquire targets, it is armed with a two shot coilgun that is effective against more armoured targets, whcih has a melta gun auxilary to provide punch up close when that is required, and a large chopping power blade. Sir Haerin in Roche is vulnerable to being overwhelmed by enemy infantry firepower(in my lore and conflict light AT launchers are common, so that is a real threat). Roche also has two banks of 5 smoke dischargers so that if a hunt goes badly Sir Haerin can redeploy. Roche is the 3rd mechanised fighting harness that the Vasterol family has owned, and it is currently the only mechiansed fighting harness the family owns rights to maintain. Vasterol is a small family and Sir Haerin is typical of the lower order knights of Klomn, whom own the rights to only a single machine. This does however have some advantages, as Sir Haerin not lacking in wealth can tailor his sole machine, and his support staff to his own preferences and requirements and allows him to be able to equip and support more exotic weaponry.

Lupus is more of a generalist and brawler, it has a remote weapon station with a machinegun and it's main long range firepower comes from a auto cannon and assault cannon mount, which provides excellent anti infantry/light vehicle punch at close and long range, although it will struggle against heavier enemy vehicles. Lupus is also equipped with a power warhammer, which I can imagine would be suitable for dealing with heavily armoured opponents close in. Lupus is piloted by the bastard Sir Alison and carries part of the de'Kanin heraldry with a black bar across it. Unlike a legitimate member of the family that may inherit a war suit Sir Alision had to earn her position as a pilot of one of the family's warmachines. Lupus is the 26th Mechianised fighting harness to be owned by the de'Kanin family, which has the rights to maintain sixteen mechainsed fighting harnesses of various classes. Many of these machines being crewed by scions of the family, or skilled pilots who are kept as retainers. The family also has several lower knights kept on as retainers, which bolsters their number of total number of mechanised fighting harness lances or offer extra utility.

Both Lupus and Roche synergise quite well, this is more by chance than intention.

Joining their comrades on the field are Klomn knights and retainers that lack mechanised fighting harnesses, although they do often have access to powered fighting harnesses. Bands of power armoured knights and retainers are often used to support actions by the mechanised harness equipped knights or to shore up allied defences from which the more mobile suits can sally from.

I am currently painting Alisha de'Kanin's personal fighting harness Valiant. Here are some pennants I made up for her machine. I'll need to make a pennant each for Roche and Lupus, because, well they need them.

Okay so some WIP pictures of Alisha de'Kanin's Knight class fighting harness Valiant.

So I've since put a wash on all the silver, Touched up some details and written the name on it's chest scroll.
Essentially the pilot is a powerful baron, with enough tout to bring 38 imperial knights mechainsied harnesses(along with their own support personnel, and supporting troops and vehicles) to the campaign my army is set around.
The motto is vae victus; Woe to the vanquished. The shoulder plates of the knight displays shields with the heraldry of noteworthy knights that Alisha de'Kanin has fought and beaten in tournament or duels. I have magnetised the weapons (with the exception of the laser impulsoras I had glued the thermalcannon into their shared mount before I realised what I had done.) So Valiant's signature weapons are a giant chain axe with a powered point for thrustinging with, the idea being what a giant flame wreathed chain axe can't cut/mangle/annihilate you can cut and stab holes in with a giant powered point, and a rapid fire vanquisher cannon, - a modification to the model which is produced in Alisha de 'Kanin's armaments factories on Klomn, and is used in Commonwealth tanks. This weapon gives a more versatile hitting capability than a battle cannon and allows the knight to take out unshielded enemy war machines from a great distance. In addition Valaint can be equipted with a reaper chainsword, thunderstrike gauntlet, avenger gatling cannon, thermal cannon. Carapace weapons include an improved icarus anti aircraft gun system, and ironstorm missile/stormspear rocket pod.

Adding pennants to my Armigers, Roche will get a fishtail, whilst Lupus is getting a long streaming triangle. They get one pennant each.

Everyone has pennants now!
Roche.

Lupus

And Valiant, just gotta do some small touch ups.
Got some scar white today, mixed that 50/50 with GSW metallic medium to make a metallic white and drybrushed the silver armour to make it even shinier. The impression I wanted was highly polished armour. Annyway this is the signature loadout og Valiant.

Other loadouts! Other angles! So many of each.

I've slapped together some air defence upgrades for my Armiger class knightlings. A pair of Anvil Industry Javelins (which I have used as MANPADs for my troops) and a little radar targeter for them. (made out the chimera satellite uplink and a spacemarine spotlight) which can be mounted on the carapace, so the options for carapace mounts now stand at:
The Vanilla
Heavy Stubber -more dakka.
Melta gun -c lose in AT punch

My additions
Air defence system - deterrent for prowling aircraft and light skimmers.
Improved targeter - faster target acquisition and better optics. (on Roche)

The weapon system is obviously less all purpose than the Questoris twin auto cannons. But on the other hand it is anti aircraft punch that an armiger can carry, and you're likely to have many more armigers in a formation than questoris, and I feel the weapon really suits their role as screening force. It means that your picket forces can stop/deter low level aerial probes before they even get close to your important assets. And there is something inherently handy in light and fast moving air defence dispersed in your forces.

I keep looking at the knight Dominus and thinking that you could do a lot of interesting and fluffy things with those three hard points on the top other than it just being a bigger gunnier mech, and this would really change up how the machine is handled.
My thoughts are:
Air defence: You have a big propper radar mounting on the centreline, a big drum and dish settup, then each side either kit it with an Icarus twin AA cannon mount or a nest of 3x SAMs. - So either a general purpose brawler that's happy to throw flak at any planes that get too close and shoot up light vehicles and infantry, or a more second line unit that is going to be smashing larger flyers at higher altitudes, providing a sizable air defence unbrella.

Void Shield generator on the centreline or on each side to help protect nearby allied forces. - Basically a support machine, whether it is leading the punch through the enemy lines or to protect the most heavy hitting units in your gun line.

Command and control hub. one of the hard points on the top is just a nest of antennas and aerials, and satelite dishes, and the battlegroup's orders etc are routed through this machine. This would pair well with having the house's banners etc. - A command and control asset that is probably pretty safe, being a giant shielded war machine that has a massive arsenal of it's own, but it's going to sit at the back of your lines and maybe snipe the occasional thing that gets too close with it's volcano lance.

Mortars might be a good carapace weapon for them if you are Kreigishly inclined.

And if you just want to change up some weapons themselves I like the idea of swapping the quad meltas for heavy stubbers, so you have this giant machine just striding forwards and laying down curtains of fire. Alternatively I really like the idea of changing the 'siege breaker cannons' (which are basically double taurox battle cannons?) with the taurox gatling gun. Because sometimes moar dakka.
