Is it worth putting a Terminator into my Grey Hunter squads? They could take a storm shield (which are cheap now thanks to Chapter Approved), and 2 wounds, so could absorb Overwatch or keep them shooting a little longer.

Also, if I do take a Wolf Guard Pack Leader in the Grey Hunters, do their points costs upgrade an existing Grey Hunter or does that get me another model in there? So base cost of 5 + the leader for 6 models?

They add, they do not replace. (They do however count towards squad size when determining special weapons.)

Also they kiiinda suck because they slow down the squad, prevent our best transport options, and the durability gains are okay but don't really fill a need for Grey Hunters.

Now, on Long Fangs you have a good reason to bring them along, because Long Fangs lack chaff options and don't move.

You can do it on outflanking squads. It is good with that stratagem.

Someone told me yesterday the terminator could take a cyclone missile launcher too. I like the idea of outflanking that. Guess I'd have to since my Wulfen get the Land Raiders, and terminators can't ride in drop pods.

I have a Wolf Guard in TDA with combi-plas that I run with a double-plasma GH pack. It is mainly for rule of cool as it was my first attempt at a proper conversion back in the days when that meant cutting metal models with a hacksaw.

He is fun but not particularly competitive and I would not build him again under 8th edition.

This doesn't make sense. If they're in the middle of the squad, they'll still catch up and charge with everyone else, the best transports are the Fliers (which will fit 9 dudes and a Terminator), and it tanks the AP0 that downs Marines quick.

With the new Beta "Bolter Discipline" rule, TDA pack leaders just got a bit tastier. SB/SS is just 27 points for a 2 wound model with 2+/3++ who can get 4 shots out to 24", even on the move.

Not quite as much firepower as the combi-plas pack leader but seriously tanky!

Space Wolves don't have Stormravens, a lot of SM stuff is not included in the SW codex.

The Stormfang Gunship has a transport capacity of 6, the Stormwolf has 16 like the Land Raider Crusader.

The logic for the Stormwolf applies though.

You’re honestly better off taking three extra Grey Hunters.
Putting one with the Long Fangs is good value...sometimes. Lost mine to first round shooting from a Las Canon, would have been better off chaffing that with the Ancient.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Apologies my liege, but shouldn't that be 30 pts? The Termi Pack leader's point cost wasn't adjusted in line with the other WG Terminators as best as I can see.

Gosh, you are quite right. Well that's a dashed nuisance.

A Protoss colony world

I've been thinking about taking a Long Fang squad with 5 Missile Launchers and a WGPL in Terminator armor with a CML. 7 krak missiles that can potentially move and still ignore penalties (thanks to the strat) would be pretty nasty vs. Alaitoc Eldar, who count on those hit modifiers to keep their stuff alive. It'd be pretty solid against other armies too. If the squad starts taking small arms fire (AP0 D1 stuff), the Termie can try to tank it. If someone shoots a Lascannon at the unit, let one of the other (cheaper) guys take one for the team.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
