Hi guys, back from a long hiatus from 40k.

Am I reading the 8th edition codex correctly in that the only way to get a Big mek with KFF is to get the one with Mega armor?

If that is the case my 4th edition model is not valid, because it doesn't have mega armor.

Am I reading the codex correctly?

thanks!!

You are reading it correctly. Codexes operated under the new GW Mantra of No Model, No Rules.

If you want to use the old KFF Model, you need the Index - Xenos book, but not everyone allows indexes anymore and GW are almost certainly going to invalidate them in the future. It also means that your old Mek doesn't have the Dakka Dakka Dakka rule.

Perfect excuse for buying the new plastic model, which is quite sweet by the way!

And costs well over 100 pts which is way too much for the 5++ bubble. Especially as it can't even keep up

Even if people won’t use them index units are perfectly legal in open, narrative and match play.

I've settled with using my KFF big mek as a weirdboy. After all he's a nob sized HQ on a 40mm base equipped with a close combat weapon, just like the psyker. I assumed that his backpack used to be a KFF but something got wrong and now it somehow fuels his brain giving him psychic powers

Model some cables running from the backpack into his head.

Index options will most likely be available until 9th edition. Aside from the occasional house rule where indexes are not allowed, which you never hear of, ever major tournament and even GW considers indexes valid options to play.
