So I am using Battle Scribe to make lists, and I'm trying to find out how to get Forge World kits to use in my armies. For instance, I have Legion Sicaran Battle Tank, but the only listing is for a Relic Legion Sicaran Battle Tank, which has rules to have it in your list. So how do you add FW kits to a 40k list. What do you add them in with, do you use a Patrol, Auxiliary Detachment, or something else?

Any help would be appreciated.

FW models are added in the same way as any other unit, that is to say there are no universal FW rules, you just follow the rules in the datasheet.

The relic version IS the 40k version, so you will need to fulfil the relic requirement.

The 40k BSData guys separated the forgeworld space marine units into their own faction because there's so much of them.

To add them to an existing force, go to 'edit forces' and add a force, but instead of tapping 'new roster' to add a new detachment, tap on the existing batallion detachment you have already, then select Imperium - FW Adeptus Astartes.

This will create another 'force' in your list but it's entries in troops, HQ etc will count and be counted towards the totals in its parent force.

Spot on answer

Have to correct this, the BSData team made no such changes .. the FW units appear in Imperial Armour - Index: Forces of the ***

so must be represented in a different repo for when maybe FW move it to a Codex or a new Index etc.

which also reminds me that the list of sources required to play goes from 15 to more than 20 including FW indexes and FAQs

The ‘Relic’ bit of the name is explained in the preamble to the rules anyway. It’s just a tag to denote their relative rarity in M41, and there are rules in including at least as many non-Relic units. Go check the FW Index.

Well last time I checked we specifically removed them from the various space marine files were they were maintained separately - for reasons of file size for mobile users, ease of maintenance and a better UX...

But if you insist to know our motivation...

I don't insist to know anything, Same as the other guy I made an assumption

that it wasn't decision your group took because it was a lazy move to implement them how you saw fit on a whim

Rather that it would be easier to maintain FW index cats separate from GW Codex cats because of the way they are two separate agencies and could at any time duplicate a piece of wargear or somesuch and yet have a variable cost.

I mean, you 'could' make a combined cat for GW/FW marines ... but I'd hate to see one company or the other dump on it with an FAQ that reads in contrast to the other.

TL;DR that was my assumption .. that it was done for a reason rather than a n arbitrary guess that the BS users are too lazy to look at a long list of units in each cat.

Edit - to add that I love BS with a passion, hate that GW provide so many sources of info that make list building so difficult, but out of all the tools around, we'd be lost without your work.

I can't imagine being a new competitive player and having to compile (I think I count 23 different sources including their errata) all this and make sense of it

That isn't why they moved them, actually. To quote alphalas: "The reason FW was offloaded to a separate cat for astartes is because they have to be shared across 6 cats; AM unfortunately doesn’t suffer from that issue since both DKoK and EDT are designed to be self-sufficient." and in fact they rejected my proposal to move the FW Guard stuff to it's own cat despite clogging up the AM roster something fierce.

Necrons have all their codex and FW stuff in the same place. Also I'd trust the people who made the decision to know why they did it.
