Greetings loyal Imperial Citizens,

With the Dreadnought lists floating around I just had to toss in a list I'm playing around with building. I simply love Dreads in a Salamander force and own most of this list already (I need to kitbash a Chaplain and pick up a Deredeo to make it)
It consists of two Vanguards for a total of a whopping 5cp!

Vanguard 1 (Fire Support)
Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought with Twin Lascannon (Salamander Warlord Trait and relic for S14 and T8 to deal with anything getting close to the bunker)
Techmarine with Bolter and Power Axe
Venerable Dreadnought with Twin Lascannon and Twin Autocannon
Venerable Dreadnought with Twin Lascannon and Twin Autocannon
Venerable Dreadnought with Twin Lascannon and Twin Autocannon
Relic Deredeo Dreadnought with Anvillus Autocannon Battery, Automantic Pavaise and Twin Heavy Bolters

Vanguard 2 (Line Backers)
Bray'arth Ashmantle
Techmarine with Bolter and Power Axe
Ironclad Dreadnought with Dreadnought Chainfist, two Heavy Flamers, and Ironclad Assault Launchers
Ironclad Dreadnought with Dreadnought Chainfist, two Heavy Flamers, and Ironclad Assault Launchers
Ironclad Dreadnought with Dreadnought Chainfist, two Heavy Flamers, and Ironclad Assault Launchers
Relic Contemptor Dreadnought with two Dreadnought Combat Weapons, two Heavy Flamers, and Cyclone Missile Launcher

I mostly want to build and play it as I think it would just look great on the table and obviously I am trying to make it as functional as possible but it is not intended to sweep any meta. Feel free to comment or make recommendations. It is fairly obvious the melee forces move up staggered so that i can fiddle around with flamers for clearing chaff with help from he Deredeo while all the BS2+ Reroll Lascannons pick off anything that is a threat to Vehicles. With Flamecraft as the primary sink for my CP the flamers will clear objectives. again the goal is simply to look good, be fun to play and easy to transport and throw out walls of cleansing promethium. With the Master Artisan Chapter Tactic it has a deceptively high amount of pseudo CP.

You can swap out the 4rth ironclad for a normal dread and it'll be legal anywhere.

Alwaysblove a dreadnought list and 10 is a mighty number yo have

Perhaps swap out a couple of the dccw on the ironclads for hurricane holders for a touch more anti-horde firepower and I think the list is a bit light on dealing with infantry at anything outside of flames range.

Unfortunately there is a faq for the chaplain dread that prohibits him for having any relics :( Hes still great though, I'm using a BA deathcompany dread for mine, big skull helm and massive claw make for a good chaplain.

Good to know about the Relics but I'm pretty sure my gaming group won't have an issue. Of course, all the arms come off on the Ironclads so the stormbolters, siege hammers and melta guns are always in reach and I have the handy Techmarines to put them on pre-battle.

I've been eyeing up starting up a dreadlist for a while (keep getting torn between them and knights) and this one lucks suitably varied and fluffy (lots of farmer goodness for salamanders) and would look epic on the table.

In regards to how it would perform heres a few ideas I've tried out while proxying lists to experiment with friends:

The fire support element is great, the salamanders trait lends itself to low quantity high quality fire power well and saves spending cp on wisdom, together with the bs2 of venerables you won't miss much. The 5++ buff with the 6+++ is also a nice synergy and makes them pretty robust along with no start fade keeps them putting down effective fire power to the last wound, the enemy will have to comitt to getting rid of them if they rely on armour in their list.

I think you'll struggle with the line backer list, ironclad are just too slow in my experience and with short range fire power won't be doing owt till turn 3 unless the enemy is cc orientated as well. Alternatives I've been enjoying are redemptors and contemptors, contemptors especially due to their invulnerables, both of these dreads love the salamander trait as they get rerolls in both the shooting and melee phase and have effective weapons for both. The redemptor also gives a nice amount of anti horde dakka. While writing this one other unit you may want to consider is the relic contemptors I haven't tried it yet but its even tougher than the gw one with far better weapons, may be too expensive and limited in fire power but 2 close combat weapons (chain fists make them a threat to even knights) with the plasma plasma blastguns will be super mobile being able to advance and shoot, and they will love the rerolls against gets hot.

Finally in regards to chapters and characters, depending on how much FW you like in your list consider the red scorpions, they can use salamander traits plus the carab culln leviathan looks a beast, has 8" movement and can give your attacking element 6+++, if you have him with kheres contemptors or redemptors give him the storm of fire trait for lots of pain. The chaplin dreadnought is cheap but if you do end up using a faster attacking element drop the lascannon to save points so you can advance him to keep up with out feeling bad about losing the shooting, again contemptors and redemptors love him as the strength buff gets them to s16 meaning wounding leman russes and knights on 2's.
Final thing I've enjoyed that you might want to consider is making the attacking detachment ultramarine and taking guilliman, I'm tempted to proxy the model with a dreadnought
Galatus as it looks cool and I play in a relaxed meta where rule of cool takes priority. Guilliman loves 8"+ moving knights as they increase his odds of making combat (he also gets the sweet s16 from chaplain) , dreads love guilliman for the same reason as salamanders trait but he does it better. My best results have been him with redemptors or dual kheres contemptors (they like the ultramarine trait for falling back and keeping shooting) in practice games I've had them absolutely blender horde lists due to the number of shots and rerolls.

Sorry for the length, I just think dreads look awesome and you can make some really interesting lists.

One hint on the relic comtemptor dreadnought. If you use the plasma blastguns instead of the flamers you can safely overcharge, because you can re-roll 1s when you have two CCWs.

True that, still on the fence over whether it's worth the points for equivalent of 2 plasma guns but it does let's you have a mobile unit that can still do something in the shooting phase. Also there is still some risk involve if you over charge while advancing but the 2ccw re-roll for ones and a re-roll for 1 of the 2s you may get will definitely mitigate the risk.
