Looks like a costume test that they fancied up a bit. I'm not sure I have any big takeaways.
Rumors were out there that the costumes were going to be less 'superheroic' and more 'street' than other recent DC fare, and this looks to confirm that. Which I'm okay with.
WB is apparently super high on Robbie and Harley. She must test off the charts. I can’t say that I’m wildly interested in this one, but that’s going to be the DC films going forward...different tones and takes, etc. Something for everyone, but not everything will be for everyone.
In all fairness, a manipulative abuser and a Stockholm syndrome victim IS a better goal than a pair of teens that killed themselves over a relationship that lasts less than 4 days.
Harley Quinn and Joker are terrible- but Romeo and Juliet set the bar much, much lower.

Her look is going to evolve during the film. That's why there are two 'looks' for her in the teaser (the second being her with the bat). She's gonna start out more like the SS version, all tatted up and trashy. But she's going to get a lot of her tattoos removed IN THE FILM as part of her 'emancipation' from the Joker. The shot of her with the bat will be her 'final' look.
I expected that they'd do a slight course correction with the character, but didn't expect that it would become part of the film's story. Interesting.

I mean, its not like she was really a member of the Suicide Squad until she became the face of Suicide Squad. I'm sure she'll get branded as the leader of the Birds in the comics shortly.

You don't need to read a comic for this. Their relationship is portrayed the same way (worse in some aspects) in the cartoon too.

Good to see that DC has finally freed their actors from the tyranny of masks and having to look even slightly like their comic counterparts. Must be a breath of relief for the actors to know they don't need to obscure their faces in any way lest we forget who they are.
That'll be the logical next step for Marvel as well. We've got Mighty Morphin Nano-Helmets on everyone as of Infinity War/Captain Marvel. Phase 4 of the MCU will be no masks at all!

Are there any members of the Bords of Prey who wear a mask? Huntress has been like 50/50 on that over the years and Harly has been sans mask since what? The mid-2000s? For whatever much the whole jester makeup counted as a mask.
Doesn't seem like the best comment coming off a film with comics-accurate Aquaman, Black Manta and Ocean Master costumes. And with a Shazam film with an accurate and cartoony costume on the way.
Besides, this one will be about as street-level as it gets. The only meta human announced is Black Canary, right? (Who's never worn a mask anyway.) These DC films no longer have to have a certain look or feel to fit into the wider universe. The costuming approach will be up to the director and his/her vision.
