Nicolas Winding Refn has been finishing editing his new amazon series "Too Old To Die Young", today was the final day of sound mixing (Cliff Martinez is doing the score). Refn also co wrote the series with Ed Brubaker. I'm a pretty big fan of Refns past films so i'm definitely looking forward to this. It's apparently 10 episodes, each running around 90 minutes in length and will release on amazon streaming June 14th.

edit: added second trailer

Not too much specific is known about it, but these two quotes I found after a quick search gave some info:

“Too Old to Die Young” stars Miles Teller as a grieving police officer forced to investigate Los Angeles’ criminal underworld, which includes working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, cartel assassins sent from Mexico, and Russian mafia captains."

and from Ed Brubaker

“The show will launch in the spring, I believe, on Amazon. Nic and Matt [Newman, editor] are still cutting the second half of the season, but what I’ve seen is amazing. It’s the most Nicolas Winding Refn thing that ever existed, honestly. It’s stylish and shocking, it has some of the best cinematography ever for television (our lead DP was the great Darius Khondji, so of course it does), and at the same time it is a meditation on these characters trapped in this world that’s not too unlike the world all around us, that feels like it’s about to fall apart, or maybe be torn apart…It’s also the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done, writing that show with Nic. We had a 10-month shoot, which I think might be a record, with one director shooting it all.”

To me it sounds like a stylized crime drama.

Well, it certainly looks well made - and you've got me curious enough now to at least watch the first episode!

Looks at least interesting. I'll have to check it out once it airs.

This had its debut at cannes film festival yesterday. So far the reviews vary from great to not so good, so just like any other thing Refn has done. It should be no surprise it's self serious violent and disturbing coming from the guy who made Only God Forgives.

soundtrack seems promising too

this looks very interesting, very stylish, hope the script holds up to the visuals.

opening sequence of the show, such a neon noir kind of vibe. Not sure if the writing of the show will be much to think about but as an audio visual experience I don't think this will disappoint.

Seen the first episode so far, will probably try to finish them all within the next few days. The length of the episodes vary wildly, first couple episodes are over an hour and a half, whereas the last episode is 30 minutes. The pacing is slow, some people aren't going to like it. I like that the scenes have room to breathe and it's got a noir vibe going on. The cinematography stands out as being great. Most of the characters are seemingly vile people, so if you're looking for someone to root for...good luck.
