We have just started a second round of playtesting on the next book - Battlegroup Pacific. The book focusses on the late war period in the Far East and, space permitting, will cover both US and British & Commonwealth theatres of operations against the Japanese. With this in mind, our playtests here have so far concentrated on the British and the opposing Japanese formations for the fighting in Burma.
Our game featured a single Japanese platoon, with limited support, dug in on a hill overlooking a bridge on the bend of the river. A reinforced and well supported British platoon with tank support was tasked with securing the bridge and then the hill defences.
The British attack started well, destroying the single Japanese tank with ease with the deployed 25 Pounder and made the bridge with few losses except a tank to a mine. However determined resistance from Japanese anti-tank squads stalled the advance, and then as the British attack got disjointed, from terrain, lack of orders and Japanese Spider Holes the assault went in on the hill in a very fragmented way and proved an immensely costly failure. At the end of the game the hill was firmly still in Japanese hands.
Good game, but not where we want it yet... so a rewrite of the lists and try again...
