What happened:
Turn 1:

As the heretic astartes player, I finished deploying first and got the first turn. I took an aggressive position at the center of the board, hoarding up most of my army ready to move towards the GSC that had half of his army in reserve leaving me with only acolytes to shoot at and mortar teams behind a building that I couldn't see. My plan was to move forward but at the same time fan out to take up space on the board so he couldn't get a good drop behind me. After an mediocre shooting phase given that all of his good targets where still off the field (including a decent heldrake drive by against the mortar teams but failing to make the charge which turned critical), I was hoping to be resilient enough to take the brunt of his fire power onto my armor. Bringing only the bikers in reserve on his first turn, he successfully cast his psychic powers and used stratagems to give those bikers a grenade toss from hell, easily overkilling my heldrake, this surprised me greatly (honestly after seeing that I was rather distressed thinking that his firepower would simply overwhelm me before I would have a chance to retaliate). He also successfully thinned my numbers with only troop fire, though mostly my power armor held up (fortunately my rhino was untouched given he lacked firepower to deal with armor before his reserves came in full force on the next turn, so I knew I would have a chance flooding into his ranks with chosen, possessed and HQ's). I scored first blood and a couple of more points off of my cards putting me in the lead 3-1.

Turn 2:

I pile my infantry from the rhino and make a headlong charge into his neophite screen, this successfully dwindles his starting forces and gets me into the heart of his army. However, this only sets him up to drop the rest of his reserves in prime locations to make charges against the bulk of my army with purestrain GS, abhorants, and the dreaded bike squad. However, this is the point where things get interesting. Though stratagems + another round of successful spell casting gets him all of the charges into combat (overall an excellent result), his 20 bug unit of genestealers cannot get around my helbrute during the pile in in order to tie up my main army. He crushes the helbrute and my heavy weapons squad on the flank with the abhorants, but he doesn't want to pile into the main force to give me an opportunity to swing for free with them. I think I score 1 more point and he scores as well 4-2(3).

Turn 3:

The genestealers and bikes that he used to force his way into my main force are now exposed given that he couldn't do significant damage to them the previous turn. This let's my shoot and charge them all to death. However, he still has dangerous spell casters, abhorants tailing me, and a powerful patriarch on the table and they go to work taking out my sorcerer, dark apostle, and straggling cultists. My numbers are feeling dwindled at this point however I still have a number of powerful HQ's on the table. I score d3=3 victory points on an objective card bringing me in the lead 7-4.

Turn 4: I keep marching deeper in the heart of his army, flooding my chosen and exalted champion into the backline while my lord and possessed are stuck in combat with his patriarch. My helpless CSM's on the far side of the board are trying to keep securing an objective we've been wrestling for all game against his neophites. The exalted champion does excellent work against his primus taking him out, he interrupts with his patriarch and slays my lord but the chosen are enough to finish off his jackal alphus and surprisingly the 2 remaining possessed finish of his warlord as well. He retaliates by finishing off my CSM's and cultists and making progress with his deadly abhorant squad towards my main force. 8-5 the score.

Turn 5: With only a few units left alive on both sides in a bloodbath, the game becomes holding on and not losing my remaining models to win on points. Arkos who's been on the high tower in the middle of the board securing that objective finally makes his move towards his remaining models along with my remaining forces, dwindling their numbers a bit more. He retaliates on his turn finishing off my chosen and possessed leaving me with only arkos and the exalted champion remaining, while he only has abhorants (though still a healthy amount of models) and one of his casters remaining. Score 8-6. We roll to see if the game ends, it does not.

Turn 6: Given that I can run away from him and win on points I decide to keep the game interesting charge my 2 remaining models into his forces. Arkos finishes off his remaining HQ and the exalted champion dies after giving the abhorants a good swing and the game ends on this turn. Alpha Legion victory. "Hydra Dominatus" were the only words uttered from Arkos the only remaining model on the table for these fine faithless sons of Alpharius.
