So I commented recently on doing a FEC all dragon/terry army, but as A.) The seems deemed a cheese/power build 2.) Another local is starting up FEC already as well and III.) The dragon/terry kit is sold out and likely to remain elusive due to A, I am looking at other options instead. Current I’m setting my gaze towards the Deepkin, as their variety of fish mounts would scratch a similar itch of running a monster army. To that end, how necessary does one find the Namarti? Could you run pretty much nothing but the mounted units and expect to do reasonably well enough?

If you run the commander on the deepmare then you get battle line fish riders.
Can then stack up sharks and turtles until your heart is content.

Fully mounted fish monster army.

I think the "meta" army is all of the eel guys (not sure which type). I hear the sharks aren't amazing though.

But yeah, all mounted seems like the go-to Deepkin list.

This is because there's an Enclave(Fuethain) that benefits greatly from them while the Enclave(Morrphan) that benefits Namarti swarms hasn't really got the same "oomph" for synergy.

By and large the lists seem to be:
High King Volturnos
X units of Ishlaen Guard (sword+shields--they ignore Rend and get a 3+ instead of a 4+ for their saves when they charge) to 'tank'
X units of Morrsarr Guard(spear+shields--Rend of -2 and damage 2 when they charge, Biovoltaic Blast is once per game rolling a dice for each model in the unit and 3+ generates a Mortal Wound. Any 6s generates D3 MWs instead)
Add Soulscryers(outflanks), Tidecasters(their Wizards) or an Aspect of the Sea(Wizard Aspect) and a Leviadon and that's pretty much seeming to be the FOTM.

Allopexes are OK but the big issue is that they and Leviadons, for their ranged weapons, can't also benefit from run+charge if they benefit from run+shoot in Turn 2 for Tides of Death.

There is an Idoneth build that does well at tournaments; all eels + support characters. However by not min-maxxing super hard it is easy to tone down. Namarti are not bad but get a bad rep because the eels are so good and sharks suffer from that as well. Eidolons are a lot of fun, they can seem a bit OP at first in the 'holy crap he does all that!?' sense but once your opponents get used to him he falls into line.

Feels like too few models. I dunno. Might just be too used to Dryad swarms.

For sure, against more traditional battle-line the fish build will suffer from a low model count. If you get stuck on an objective you'll have to kill the other person off of them to claim it.

But the benefits of all-eels are great. They've got damage, they've got relatively strong survivability compared to Thralls and they're fast as all get out.

The speed of that army build and it's toughness against conventional damage, combined with it's control abilities such as negatives to hit, movement control from your speed and the Shipwreck placement, and Forgotten Nightmares controlling who gets shot at makes it a solid army. It will take some time getting used to piloting it however.

I would mix eel types as they compliment each other quite well. But yeah, looks like a solid list.

There are 2 main lists atm.

Namarti Corpse - 1 Soulrender, 2 Thralls, 2 Reavers
Tidecaster
Soulscryer
Rest Eels

2nd list is

Royal Council - King, Tidecaster, Soulscryer
Soulscryer
Rest Eels

Both lists try to get 5 Drops, anything more than 5 then you never go first.

Namarti list is more of a movement army, you win the in movement phase, you dont mind the battalion ability to much, you are taking it b.c Reavers/Thralls are good for what they do, and for 100pts you get less drops, +1CP, +1 Relic.

Royal Council + extra Soulscryer is a full on Alpha strike army, hit extremely (sometimes turn 1, if they give you room to outflank), use the Royal Council to move a or both Scyers and anything else (Normally 2 Eel units as 1 Scryer might be Outflanking), move+run the Soulscryers(s) 1. this will get you 9+D6 to get you within 24", or or outflank. You will get +6" to the charge.

Many are taking Namarti Corpse and even forgoing the King for allies to unbind spells without needing to roll, they are playing 1 or 2 of them and or another Soulscryer. Soulscryers can give up insane movement.

I am bumping this just to ask a question since I had a dream the other night that I was starting Deepkin (don't ask). Are their regular guys any good? I know the meta (as I said earlier in the thread) is eel spam. But the... thralls? Sorry I don't know unit names, are those any good?

My FLGS is doing a slow grow league soon in a couple weeks, I could (if my wife would let me after dropping a lot on CSM) potentially consider doing another army, if not I'm going to stick with my FEC (as I previously asked in a thread deciding between them and Maggotkin, FEC seems better choice overall and I own more).

Is their Start Collecting box any good? How about the old holiday battleforce? My FLGS still has one.

Gathering the Informations.

The holiday battleforce plus a Start Collecting and an Akhelian King will give you a fairly nice setup IMO.

Thralls(the melee equipped ones) with a Soulrender to back them up are fairly good.
Reavers(the bows) are a bit...underwhelming. But that can be said of a lot of bow armed units in the game.

I do think you might just be better off going with what you have though!
