Subject: Custom characters - tank commander

Hi folks,
Pretty simple one, I guess. Chapter Approved 2018 says any unit with the 'Character' keyword can be made into a custom character.
I can't find any answer yay or nay in the FAQ's or Errata, so wanted to check.
Does this mean that the 'Tank Commander' for Astra Militarum can be a custom character, then?
And if so, as they are listed as having a storm bolter and battle cannon as their ranged weapons, would picking weapons improvements like 'Auto-loader' or 'Inferno Rounds' apply to the Leman Russ's cannon?
What about abilities affecting ranged weapons like 'Sundering Shots'?
Thanks,
Possum

Yes it can.
Remember, these rules are in no way balanced or designed for any kind of competitive or even vaguely fair play. Use at your own risk, or for super casual games.

Ah cool, thanks!
I guess they're just rules for a friendly fun p*ss-around, then, but that suits me fine!

Absolutely! So long as both players go in knowing that, it's all good.
It's just possible to make some super broken characters with it. You can use them on Knight Castellans!
Also the suggested number of upgrades is insane. I'd suggest giving characters just 1 upgrade, which is still very strong.

Yes, Tank Commanders can use them.
However, the main convention for any Open Play rule is "don't be a ", so treat lightly.

As stated above you can use these rules on any model with the character keyword. That said. I’d consider getting with your opponent or group and clearly defining how many and what can and can’t be taken on the new hero’s. I love the idea of the custom characters but you really need to put a rules framework around generating these abilities to keep them from getting out of hand. I know there were some interesting post here on Dakka with rules to make customizing more balanced

Considering they're for Open Play where you just literally plop down whatever models you want to, they're not really that much of a problem.
