So, I discovered the joy of papercrafting at a young age when I could not afford to get model kits but maybe once a year with birthday money, or whatever family gave me for Christmas. Later, I left the paper behind when I was out on my own right up until I had kids of my own and they ate my wallet. With not too much disposable income, I came back to paper somewhat. Then one day, I discovered what silveroxide was doing here on Dakkadakka, and thus began my quest to build a decent motor pool of paper vehicles!

My first project was a BMP-2 inspired replacement for the venerable Imperial Guard Chimera. I cannot say I am the biggest fan of the WWI and inter-war period style of most Imperial Guard designs, so this really grabbed my attention. Better, it shows the real genius of it's designer, Eli Patoroch.

For scale (I had to create it at 96% to fit the templates onto 8.5 x 11.00 US Letter paper from ISO size), but you cannot really tell next to the miniatures. Building is a David Graffam papercraft building, and still both the vehicle and building look great for the gaming table.

That is well-done, paper or not. Being paper, it is incredible! Thanks for some inspiration!

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

I'm two thirds to a platoon (half if I want fourth to be a platoon command vehicle, with three whole line squads). Going by the older Soviet style Mech/Motorized Rifle Regiment setup... So three vehicles to a motorized rifle platoon. Seeing a lot of Soviet inspiration for Imperial Guard (Valhallans especially), I figure such is appropriate.

Thank you for the kind words, though, I'm merely standing on the shoulders of giants; check out silveroxide here on Dakka for the source of my inspiration!

Keeping with my WARPAC camo theme, well, maybe more Soviet-Afghan War camo theme... Here is a Mk I Dreadnought. With red twin linked bolters, because you cannot ignore that feature with a Classic from the RT era! Base is a 3D printed one I made, and the rocks are plaster from Woodland Scenic molds; otherwise, you guessed it, cardstock paper!

Another Patoroch model, this time of an Imperial Guard Vulture gunship.

My inspiration is obviously the old Soviet Hind gunship color scheme, which matches my BMPs perfectly (it is the same paints after all...). So the combined arms of my paper army are unified by the same camo scheme... I'm sure if I build some fighters they might be pained MiG style (greys...). Now, to create a suitable insignia... Red Aquilla? Red star behind a gold Auqilla? Oh, the possibilities...

Fellow thrifty gamer and papercraft fan here, absolutely loving this. Eli Patoroch is undoubtedly a genius, but you're doing damn good work with his templates. Subbed and looking forward to more!

Thanks for the watch! More is in the pipeline for sure! Eli's designs are indeed quite solid, and enjoyable to build.

Yup, I post my finished work on his page to my appreciation for his work! I look forward to seen that Shadowsword, let me know if you have a build thread here because I think I want to follow a long on something that big...

T19 Warga, also known as the 40K version of the French Panhard AML 90 4x4 armored reconnasiance car (which in the hands of Foreign Legion picked off T-55 MBTs... yup, main battle tanks).

Not sure what I'll use for vehicle stats for it, as Chimera might be to armored comparatively, while Sentinel might closer. Sadly, GW is rather silent about such vehicles, which is sad given the prevalance of these machines since WWII. One could easily see a PDF using them in lieu of Sentinals... Which I just might do at my FLGS.

My latest paper masterpiece is this M1 Abrams inspired tank by Eli Patoroch. Turret is obviously very much Abrams style, but that hull looks more like an elongated Leman Russ... Right down to the bow bolter! No sponsons on the sides though! I'll still take it over a Leman Russ, but that is just my tastes in armored fighting vehicles. Reality has robbed much of my enjoyment of some fiction designs!

Obligatory proof this is a paper model photo:

Okay, it may not require such proof, but you have got to admit how cool that turret looks even without paint!

Orktoberfest 2020!

Started this project while visiting family in mid-October (before we experienced a surge in COVID cases that has now shut down such visits...). I finished assembly before November 1st though, but only recently finished painting it. Enjoy the video!
