So, I was at Cold Wars this past weekend, and was walking through the flea market when I spotted a table with some old Orcs & Goblins boxes, pretty much NIB, at insanely cheap prices.

I couldn't resist, so I guess I'm into Middlehammer now!

I got the old O&G battalion (the same minaitures as the 6th Ed starter set), a Black Orc box, a bag of plastic Black Orcs from an even older edition (that I'll be trading to a friend for some stuff) and the Shaman box.

I've got the rulebook ordered from Ebay and a PDF of Ravening Hordes, along with a couple more black orcs. Here's what my list looks like at 1000:

Orc Boss
-Sword of Might
-Enchanted Shield
-Light Armor
-Boar

Shaman
-Level 2 Wizard

Big Unz x20
-Extra hand weapon
-Full Command

Orc Boyz x16
-Bows

Black Orcs x12
-Extra hand weapon
-Full Command

Goblin Wolf Riders x10
-Bows
-Spears
-Muscian, Banner

Orc Boar Chariot

I'm definitely kicking myself for not impluse buying a NIB Battle for Skull Pass box that I spotted. I could have used the Goblins!

Great find! There are still gems like these to find in smaller local shops e.g. there's like 6 boxes of Betrayal at Calth in my local Toymaster that no heresy player has snapped up yet

Fantastic base to start with!!

Maybe you should get some spear chuckkas and a unit of boar boys to accompany your boss on boar, which you then could upgrade to a lord choicce..Some more Orcs or Blackorks,, a unit of Night Goblins with fanatics, and a Night Goblin Shaman, and something like a giant or some trolls and you will be at around 2000 points.

A fast way to augment what you have is to chase down the Night Goblin half of the Battle For Skull Pass. They don't ebay for cheap, so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled for a deal.

Also, just to hit on it, if you are not a member at classichammer.com I'd apply. We have the registration fixed so you'll get in. All I ask is that you may potentially have to wait 24 hours as I sift through and approve/deny applicants.

I'll sign up asap. Like I said in the post, I had the chance to buy a shrink-wrapped BFSP for $75 (probably could have haggled for lower) at a recent convention. That was a mistake!

I put up a post on Bartertown and it's getting hits, so I'll see what I can get.

At this rate, especially given GW's treatment of WFB and the phasing out of any legacy models, I'd buy anything and everything you can find on the cheap. If you don't plan on using it, you can at least flip it to someone who may use it.

So I've managed to get my hand on the Goblin half of the BFSP set and an old box of Fanatics, so I think that's Goblins support handled (I've got someone that's got Goblin artillery to sell too).

I think the last goal is to purchase the Age of Sigmar Greenskinz box. It's OOP on the GW website but still available elsewhere. That'll get me another Orc Boss, a BSB, 10 Boyz, 5 Boar Riders, and another Boar Chariot. If I get a boxset of Boyz from somewhere that's another unit of 20 Boyz. And I should be set.

You'll need some extra "Common" Orcs if you want to field that many Big'Unz.
6th Edition was notoriously strict with its limitations.

You'll need to have at least as many regular Orcs as you have Big'Unz. They're still good value for points though (especially the boss).

Going by RH - which is what I and a few others are using - Big Un's are just a 0-1 choice in core.

Like I said, I'm planning to buy the Greenskinz AoS set which comes with 10 boyz, and then combine it with another box of boyz to get a unit of 20.

There was a reason it was so strict. In 5th you just had to satisfy "Regiments" with a percentage. Not Core or Mainstay for the most part. Regiments.

Agreed there, though with some house ruling it'd be easy to simply apply it to the RH list.

True! Since its me and some gaming buddies we're likely to pull what we like from the army books - like how Ravening Hordes treats the Doom Diver as a Stone Thrower. That's no fun!

Over at classichammer.com there's a thread entitled "Hope I don't get banned..." in Warhammer General that has a link to the Wayback machine, and it includes the printable Magic cards for the different lores. I believe it's under the link Warhammer Chronicles on that Wayback linked page.

I think I still have some custom cards made for 8th edition in PDF format. 6th never had cards IIRC (which was a huge step away from the excellent magic supplement of 5th edition).

6th was indeed dice based, but they had reference cards you could print off and draw instead of rolling for. And in my opinion the removal of the card based magic was for the best. A few balls were dropped with the dice system that got fixed in 7th, but it was still a superior system to the card based system.

Nice haul. OnG does have a lot of novelty in the army so you most likely never be bored playing them.

I always thought of them as the "iconic" Fantasy army.

Not exactly what I meant, but that too. I originally meant that there is a lot of variety in the list, and a lot of room to do what you want. The only deficiency is a lack of scouts, which they could have used forest goblins for, but apparently decided against.
