Hi guys,
With the imminent release of the new CSM wave, it's obvious that Reaper Chain Cannons are the way to go, both for MSU CSM squads and Havoc squads. But with only 1 per Havoc squad, some serious converting is going to be needed, unless you splurge on either FW Rotor Cannons or a million Havoc squads. As that's beyond 90% of us, I just wanted to open a conversation as to what people may be doing to throw together some Reaper Chain Cannons on the cheap.

World Eaters: 5780pts
Khorne Daemons: 3450pts
Chaos Knights: 2000pts

Sisters of Battle: 5000pts
Imperial Agents: 410pts

Gloomspite Gitz: 7190pts
Blades of Khorne Daemons: 3810pts
Skaven: 1270pts
Destruction Mercenaries: 470pts
Endless Spells and Incarnates: 1380pts

There's a few 3rd party ones (like this one), and some people have suggested the plastic 30k Heavy Bolters with an Assault Cannon barrel on the front.

There are soooo many "minigun" style bits in 40K, just chop the barrel and slot it on one of the other heavy weapons. Kromlech does some excellent stuff, but I don't know if they'll slot onto the new style marines (they're made for classic scale Space Marines).

Anvil Industry does one (rather ugly though). Heck, someone probably does a simple 3D print of just the barrel which you could easily add to stuff like Heavy Bolter frames, etc.

Kromlech has implied that their's fit (on an FB post a couple of days ago - 23rd March) but as I haven't tried them I can't say for certain. Than again, shoulder pads can hide a multitude of sins!

Maxmini do a minigun but without hands: https://maxmini.eu/conversion-bits/ballistic-weapons/minigun-bits
Don't know if it might look a bit small on a marine but the only review on the product reads 'My BAs have a 10 man squad of these badboys. They are definitely absofreakinlutly cool!'.

€6.99 for 5

Puppetswar do the 'tips': https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-46/all-bits/infantry-weapons/gatling-cannon-tips.html
These could be glued on the end of a heavy bolter or they also do a weapon body into which these tips fit into. Don't know whether these are vehicle only or can easily be 'strapped' to an arm.

€5 for 5. Discount for buying 2 or more sets.

Zinge's offering is probably too small but does come with backpacks & flexible ammo belts: https://www.zinge.co.uk/collections/armoury/products/big-guns-saturation-fire-minigun-back-pack-flexible-ammo-belt-set-x-2

£6 for 2

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Normally I’d say just buy a third-party kit, but Gatling-style barrels look very easily scratch-built from round plastic tubing.

Styrene tubing/sheet and about ten mins work. Much cheaper!

Hi All,

Just to let you know I have just listed a set of conversion barrels for turning Chaos Heavy Bolters to Reaper Chain Cannons - that way you can potentially make 4 from a Havoc kit (bodies allowing)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113721227226

Hope they are of interest

Cheers

This seems great, does the canon barrels fit over the heavy bolter barrel so I can magnetise and run either?

You have to physically remove the bolters barrel I'm afraid. Bolters barrel is too wide to fit inside the chain cannon.

You might be able to magnetized if you can get the bolters barrel off cleanly enough

Bits and Kits is a UK seller. I got an email a few days ago about some in stock, but they were pricey and in high demand.

I'd say go for 3rd Party bits and the FW parts, or cast your own. As long as they remain popular, they will be pricey and rare.
