Most people will agree that the Anvil of Doom is pretty lackluster in the 8th ed book. The bound spells are not very strong and the dwarfs can usually achieve more with war machines. The Anvil is also incredibly expensive considering it is 290pts minimal. Thorek is a staggering 435 and all you get is +1 to cast and a magic hammer. The ridiculously high cost combined with the low powered spells leave the Anvil on the shelf most of the time.

To make the Anvil more useful and balanced with other casters for a house rule I'm considering doing away with the bound runes and giving the Dwarfs access to the Lore of Metal. To balance it the casting values will stay the same as listed in the Lore. Since the Dwarfs will cast off of straight rolls and not add casting level I think keeping the spells as bound spells would be balanced.

Considering that the Anvil would be the only way to cast I don't think it would be over powered. The points will stay the same so other races can still cast for less points, such as 200pts for a human level 4 or 220 for an elf level 4. The Anvil cannot join a unit so it can be more easily targeted than other casters.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't be opposed to using the lore of metal, although the easiest solution would be to bring it back to its 7th edition iteration where it wasn't bound spells being cast, it just operated in the shooting phase so it couldn't be shut down.

AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi

I do prefer the old Anvil but I know a lot of people had a problem with it because there was no way to stop it. I was thinking that casting Lore of Metal solves two issues 1) allows chance to dispel and 2) gives dwarfs access to all the phases of the game.
