Rubicon vs. Warmachine (Italeri)? There seems to be some preference from Rubicon but from what I've seen in videos neither is particularly sharp on detail.

How are Warmachine's plastic figures? Any alternates I should look at?

It depends on what theatre of war your gaming and do you want troops or vehicles ?

An example being, I am just building an early Fallshrimjager force for Crete and I`m using Warlord, 1st Corps, Gorgon, Crusader and Foundry for the troops.


I have a large army for battles in Normandy and I use vehicles from Warlord,Perry,Rubicon,Blitzkrieg,Diewaffenkammer and numerous 3D printing companies.


Also just bought a bargain 1/48 scale JU 52 on fleabay. 1/48 is commonly used for vehicles in Bolt Action.

British and German, looking at pretty much everything right now.

I watched some reviews of vehicles from both Warlord and Rubicon, and maybe they are up to par for the genre, but coming from the mainstream model world, I'm just underwhelmed with the molded on details, low part count tracks, and things like tow hooks and headlights which are just a solid protrusion.

I agree with the quality issue but to be honest it’s no good for wargaming. I have nearly just finished a 1/48 Tamiya Jadgtiger kit with loads of fine detail and I know from previous experience it’s not going to last on the battle field. Things get knocked being picked up and moved around and the fine detail is the first thing to get chipped off.

Anyway for me,Perry make the best vehicles and Artizan the best troops. But and it’s a big but it depends on the exact year and theatre of WW2 as different manufactures cover different periods with varying ranges. Pick and mix.

Buy a few single figures from different manufacture and see which you prefer .

Rubicon are definitely ahead of warlord for many base kits.

The sherman is the best current example in regards to you being interested in British
(Though comparing the Rubicon T-34 series to warlords is like comparing gold to gak)

The newest panzer IV series from Rubicon aren't far away and look to blow warlords away with far more options and variants.
And the Jagdpanther is sexual.
Anti tank guns are plastic and not metal.

And rubicon avoids some of the Italeri trash like the Hetzer or the M8.


Infantry.
If you want poorly fitting comic book style you go warlord.
Otherwise it's perry.
Crusader.
Artizan.
Rubicon.
Foundry.
...and probably hundreds more

Now I actually quite like some of the warlord games plastic infantry. The newer late war German grenadiers , waffen ss and British airborne are great fun to put together. Oh and the newish us infantry.

Plus the amount of troops and options you get in the box for your money is fantastic.

I built warlords 8th army and American GI update minis recently.
Chucked them in a box now. The 8th army were garbage.

Each the their own as they say, i enjoy the plastics and think they look great built up.
Some of the vehicles can be hit and miss but as gaming peices they do the job more than well enough.

If you are not scared of resin try JTFM/Die Waffenkammer.

Brigade Games carries some of their stuff in the US. Ordering direct, they've been slow on a couple of my orders, but the product is always fantastic.

Would agree,fantastic product but without doubt the worse customer service on the planet bar none, period. end of.


I actually gave my vehicle away on finally receiving it as I couldnt bare looking at it, such was my inner rage.

Rubicon compared to Warlord is like night and day. Warlord's plastics tend to be upscaled Italeri kits, so whatever your gripes with Rubicon, their quality is miles (miles...) better than Warlord.

Maybe I'm drunk, but I don't understand those who think its the other way around. Like are they looking at different models? I have the same vehicles from both companies and its difficult to even compare them. Besides the detail level, the number of extra parts which come in the box with Rubicon makes them a cut above. Considering that other companies would sell the variants those parts can make as resin kits or upgrade sets.


When it comes to resin then Die Waffenkammer's the same to Warlord as Rubicon are to them. That company sells hundreds of vehicles. If they don't have something sure go to Warlord (or one of the dozen other companies), but I'd be looking their as a first port of call. If shipping from Canada's a problem then there's always other distributors like Empress Miniatures or Upstairs Downstairs.

Of course Die Waffenkammer has the ever present issue of shipping. Or the owner being attacked by a bear. Or frozen under a mountain of snow. Youknow, Canada problems. The average weight time I had on receipt was between 7 and 9 months from what I remember. As I said, go to one of the distributors. Upstairs Downstairs had a package to me in two days.


There's companies out there using 3D printed masters - like Trenchworx - who offer decent quality too. However, currently nobody makes kits of the complexity as Tamiya's 1/48th sets in 1/56th. The closest you'll find parts wise is Rubicon. Rubicon / Die Waffenkammer/ Trenchworx are the best you're going to find in this scale. Heh, just be lucky that you're collecting WWII and not post-war, otherwise you'd have even less manufacturers (there's not even a T-55, the most produced tank in history, available in 1/50th).

Die waffenkammer is definitely a resin I'd suggest.
I've had warlord in the past and it was...below average.
Then I got a Waffenkammer Tiger I and filled my pants with joyful juices of excitement.

Like most have said on here for plastic vehicles Rubicon are great. Admittedly I’ve only bought and built one but it was a dream to build. Only reason I have as many warlord vehicles is because I’ve grabbed them in the sales.

Now Rubicon have a boat load out and more coming out all the time I’m thinking il switch over to them.

I had winter Germans from Artisan they were great, had a Pakistan 40, mortar & heavy mg all in winter clothing, they are metal though.
For tanks I had Warlord, they weren’t great. I have heard good things about rubicon & most of my friends buy their models.
