So...I'm saddened to report that I got into the Warhammer 40k lore by playing copious amounts of Dawn of War and the Ultimate Apocalypse mod for almost a decade. Instead of actually playing the game...for almost a decade. Mostly because models are expensive and I'm in between jobs. At long last I've decided to join a forum so I can meet like minded people who love this game more than I do. I REALLY wanna play. I've even thought about making paper cut outs of units and just buying dice.

Hrm...Chaos is bestest faction because they're a Slayer album come to life. Papa Nurgle loves me dearly, but Tzeentch keeps giving me great offers; like magical flamethrower hands. And really, isn't that what we all want in the end? Orkz is second bestest faction, followed by Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Imperial Guards, Space Marines, Eldar, and Tau.

I also like Studio Ghibli movies, any history regarding the Aztecs, Mayans, Zulus, etc. I like to read fantasy and sword and sorcery fiction very very slowly. Not deliberately mind you, but I am envious of people who can read books in under a week. Robert E. Howard left us too soon.

I can't math, like a true heretic. I like the whole idea of immersing yourself into a role though. I've only played very few D&D type games over the years due to lack of opportunity. I'm trying to be less of a hermit this year.

If you like role playing and 40k, look into Dark Heresy. It's a RPG set in the Imperium.

That's all I know about it.

I actually bought the Black Crusade book from a used bookstore awhile back. Fun read.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

welcome, I am also new, and followed a similar path.

Lore first then actual gaming.

Head down the the FLGS they will be running regular games that you can watch, for instance my store runs 1000 pts on Thursday nights, and the tables be full.

If I am picking up a new model or book I will try to swing buy on the Thursday after work, and get to know the guys. long story short there will be guys that will have multiple armies that will hopefully let you play if you show enough interest.

This is also a way of being less hermit more table top gamer, and also remember that outside of the competitive scene most of us are introverts to some degree.

Building towards 1000pts

Welcome to Dakka! This is a safe place now. Even your socks are safe.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.
