I was at a weekend tournament last weekend and played 5 games.

I know I promised a to take pics the next tournament I went to and I really did plan too, unfortunately I decided to take a few pics at my apartment before leaving for the tourny (to document the whole trip or something) well ofcourse I broke the camera at that point so no pics I am afraid.

Game 1 against: Space Marines
Game 2 against: Dark Eldar
Game 3 against: Mech Tau
Game 4 against: Ulthwe Strike Force
Game 5 against: Iron Warriors

My army:
Since I was not running into any seer councils lately I decided to drop most of my screams, down to 2 in this list from the previous 5.

Ok, time to get back to actaully writing these, been dead busy lately but here comes game 1 as much as I can still remember it.

Opponent was actually running a SM army with alot of infantry!

HQ:
Master
Librarian

Elite:

Troop:
10*tac marines with plasma/plasma in rhino
8*tac marines with plasma/plasma in rhino
6*tac marines with plasma
6*tac marines with rocket
6*marines with lascannon

HS:
Predator

Something like that, alot of marines, little armour.

Mission was like seek and destroy though only points from kills.
Basically you had to kill your opponents entire army without losing more than 300VPs of your own for a massacre.

I managed to out deploy him and he found his 2 rhino squads where deployed to the far left of his DZ while the footslugging marines where on the right, all of my army bar 1 zoanthroape was at the far right.

First 4 turns went well with me shooting up everything on his right side, leaving the 2 rhinos to slowly move towards the action, he was not managing much damage to my MCs, any that where wounded where moved so that they could not be targeted to save VPs losses.

By turn 5 most of the footsluggers where dead and I even destroyed 1 of the rhinos that was trying to home in on my winged tyrant (which destroyed the rhino in CC with 5 penetrating hits)

At this point my opponent sees he has no chance and reverses the rhino, moves it behind a building out of los to my army and thus saves over 300VPs.

He managed to kill a few ravaners and wound a few MCs but they did not yield him any VPs as they did not go under half. I think 1 Devilfex went down.

17/3 win for the tyranids as I could not touch that last rhino.

Game 2 vs Dark eldar

HQ:
Archon with shadowfield and all the regular goods. agoniser

Elite:
6 wyches with syberite w/ agoniser
6 hounds with slaver w/ agoniser

Troop:
10 DE warriors with 2 lances
10 DE warriors with 2 lances
10 DE warriors with 2 lances
10 DE warriors with 2 Splinter Cannons/2 blasters
10 DE warriors with 2 Splinter Cannons/2 blasters

Fast:
3 bikers with 2 blasters
3 bikers with 2 blasters

HS:
Ravager with lance and 2 disintigrators

Terrain featured a los blocking pyramid on the far left, and the center had 4 walls with windows set in a large square. 4+ save for anything shot through the windows we agreed.

Basically meant everything was recieving a 4+ save all game due to me deploying inside the area covered by the walls. there where small avanues that would have avoided the cover save but both players where more concerned with keeping our own troops alive than harming the enemy so they where not used.

Mission: Secure the BAG, random game length (otherwise cleanse with only kill points) Bag could either give 850 VPs, 400 VPs, blow up and cause some damange or suck whoever was grabbing it into the warp killing them instantly!

Opponent wins first turn and opens bag with a biker squad on turn 1, I destroy said squad on turn 2 (would have given 850 VPs)

This turned the game into a max 1500VPs game, Godzilla in 4+ cover just does not die! only time I didnt get the cover saves was when the ravagers flanked some fexs and got to shoot at them without the walls in the way.

Took me 3 turns to shoot down the ravagers, 2 destroyed and 1 lost all 3 guns. after this another 2 turns and all the DE where either dead or running. after I shot down the wyches I ran the winged tyrant in to start ravaging through the DE warriors, I was a little arrogant and decided to absorb 1 turns lance fire with it to get into CC a turn faster, tyrant ended up taking 3 wounds before it got into cc.

Kills 1 DE warrior squad, consolidated into another....DE then all pile in on the tyrant! 30 s3 attacks later the tyrant DIES! to cc against DE warriors!

One of the match highlights for sure.... at the same time the the warp beasts and syberite charge a HS fex, kill it and consolidate into a devilfex.

ravaners kill the beasts.

At the end of the game I have lost the winged tyrant, a HS fex, devilfex is under half and a ravaner is dead.

DE has 1 Ravager left, no guns on it but still worth every VP!
Said ravager was penetrated once and glanced maybe 7 times! still ould not take it down.

15/5 win for my tyranids.

Game 3 is against tau

Mission is Fear of the dark.
Night fight lasts all game, points only from table quarters, 350 VPs each.

Mech tau army:
plasma fusion, bs5 shasel

3 plasma/missile crisis suits
3 stealths with 5 drones
3 stealths with 5 drones

Devilfish with SMS, 10 FWs (bs4, decoy launchers, all the gadgets on the fish)

I give the first turn away.

Terrain plays little role during the entire game, as there was no area terrain the tau could normally navigate to ignore the cover.

I build my usual walls to protect the stealers and ravaners however with 5 SMSs in the tau army my ravaners die on turn 1, I should have just deployed them out of range of the smarts as I noticed on turn 1.

Tau deploy a stealth unit on either side, crisis suits in center behind a pyramid that blocks los, allowing them to jsj for a few turns.

We basically shoot it out for the first 3-4 turns, tau S5 does ALOT of damange to my MCs and by turn 2 I have already lost a HS fex, walking turant has lost its guard and an elite fex has died!

This dispite nightfight! though tau has those night vision things on everything! always so that makes a huge difference, my HS fex cannot see things 12" away half the time!

I take down a devilfish on turn 2, another fish and a hammerhead on turn 6, otherwise his skimmers remain afloat.

On turn 3-4 I manage to get into CC with crisis suits with my winged tyrant, I end the combat on my turn and manage to charge some stealths on the left, they run but I catch up with them and finnish them in the next turn. On the right the stealths stray too close to shoot at a fex and it returns fire with its devourers, killing the unit over 2 turns.

By the last turn my opponent has only 2 scoring units, the skyray and the ionhead, I have winged tyrant, some stealers and 2 fexs.

I fail to shake the skyray with my HS fex so it gets to smart missile my stealers in its last turn...

the HQ suit then uses its bs5 plasma at rapid fire range and its blaster to try and kill my 1 wound HS fex (Ionhead took it below scoring) fails! hits with all 3 but rolls 3 1s to wound........ it CHARGES said fex and kills it in CC with its 5 ws4 s5 attacks Smile

I manage to take 2 quarters and contest the other 2 and win 15/5 in the end. (wish I had not let those ravaners die so easily, had they been depployed as far back as possible they would have been fine, esp aided by the nightfight rules!) Lesson learned for next time.

Day 2 starts after a few hours of sleep and I am on table 1 against an Ulthwe strikeforce army that has been doing rather well.

Seercouncil 960pts
5 seers (3 fortunes)
34 warlocks (embolden, enhance.....all powers)
Rest of the warlocks just have augment (as strikeforce warlocks need a power)

2 black vypers (starcannon)
2 black war walkers (2*starcannon)
2 black guardian squads with starcannons


Mission was Enemy territory
Like recon only every unit rolls at the start of the game to see if they are on the table or not. anything that does not roll a 6 on d6 starts in reserve.
Each scoring unit in the enemies DZ at the end of the game is worth 200VPs, under half strength units worth 100.


Terrain... 1 mid size forrest on the right center of the board, rest is irrelevent.

Enemy council starts off the board, I get a HS fex, elite fex and a ravaner on the table.

opponent wins first turn roll and makes me take it.

Well not much happens the first 2 turns as the ulthwe have nothing on the table. Coucil comes on turn 3.

I start rolling reserves steadily, winged tyrant comes on turn 2.

As the opponents council does not shoot, no mindwars even it is just about playing the mission and trying to get some scoring units onto his DZ and stopping him from getting near mine and opening the wraithgate.

First 2 turns I have my HS fexs and an elite fex kill a decent amount of the council in shooting, trying to stay just 18" away as not to be assualted too early. I think 10 warlocks die to my shooting in turns 3 and 4.

They always just barely pass the pinning and casualy checks, (all I needed was 1 more scream! to make the council run atleast 4-5 times during the game! stopped running screams as I never seemed to run into councils when I had them)

I run my 3 ravs and 1 stealer squad that came on early (started on board or came on turn 2) that I see can make it into his DZ on the extreme right flank, keeping them behind the forrest untill turn 5 when I move them onto the enemies DZ.

My plan is to take the extra VPs with them while slowing the council down enough to stop it from opening the portal near my DZ.

My first chance to accomplish this is on turn 4, when I charge my winged tyrant at the extreme left flank of the council, it kills 1 model, wins the combat but the council holds....fine all I expect from the tyrant is to hold the council in place for 1 turn!

in the eldar players turn he has piled in and combat starts, tyrant kills nothing, 26 witchblade attacks back at him.....13 hits, 9 wounds....no worries 2+ save right? WRONG......4 ones and the tyrant goes down!!!! to 9 wounds!!! with a 2+ save!!!! well that screws up my plan!

My turn 5, Everything but 1 elite fex fires on the council (devilfex is still out of range as it just comes on)

I manage to bring the council just under half at this point...hooray!
I then need a new way to slow the council down so I decide I should charge 2 fexs at the right flank of the unit, I forget to declare both charges though So can only charge 1 fex at it.

Fex charges, 3 attacks, 2 hits, 2 dead models, only ones in the kill zone are a farseer and a warlock, instakill the farseer, warlock dies....its the one with the wraithgate!!!! This costs me the game!

Gate opens 1 turn sooner than it normally would have!

Enemy turn has everything come out of the gate!
I lose 2 ravaners and a stealer squad in his DZ goes below half!
the HS fex that forgot to assualt is also destroyed by the warwalkers

My last turn, nothing I can do to hide the ravaner, I shoot down 1 war warwalker, 1 vyper and 1 guardian squad, the other one runs back to the gate.

In eldars last place I lose the last scoring unit I have, the ravaner to a vypers shurican catapults! (stealers would have been above scoring if I had taken carapace on them!)

the elite fex in CC is taken below half by the council in CC (it survived longer than the tyrant!)

In the end the eldar have lost half the council, half a guardian squad, full guardian squad, vyper and war walker.

I have lost 3 ravs, 1 half a stealer squad, winged tyrant, HS fex, half a elite fex.

Many ways for me to win the game 20/0, either winged tyrant holding that 1 turn OR me not charging the council and opening the gate.

I didnt actually realize that the warlock with a flag on its back was the one with the gate so it opening like that on turn 5 was a surprise.

In the end it was 10/10 tie.

Final game of the tournament, down to table 3 at this point.

Opponent is Iron Warriors (hardly surprising I would meet one since there where 4 IW players at the tourny of 22? players)

His army:
Cheap stature, speed lord

Mission was otherwise seek and destroy however 1 unit was worth an extra 400 VPs.

Terrain saw a wall with windows on my extreme left flank giving anything behind 4+ cover (though not from indirect, just a wall not a building.

Right had a similar wall only it was vertical so really gave no cover.

Opponents side had.....well he was playing CSM and my guns have no real ap so it made little difference, suffice to say none of his indirect tanks could hide, hull down they could get.

I won the roll for choosing which unit would be worth the extra 400VPs, I could either choose one of my own for my opponent or I could choose one of his.

So it was either a case of me choosing my winged tyrant which I could actually keep alive despite all his indirect and letting him decide a unit he could then keep alive all game, thus neither getting the bonus.

Or choosing something of his I was sure to kill like a defiler, and my opponent definately choosing a ravaner which would die on turn 1 or 2 meaning neither gets the bonus....

Well I choose his defiler as my target, I figured it would just turn into both of us losing our unit and thus making it a straight seek and destroy, kill points only mission. He ofcourse chose a ravaner and killed it with indirect by turn 2. Still I felt if things went badly atleast my opponent would not get an extra 400VPs.


Deployment:
Opponent deploys a basilisk and defiler on the left flank, defiler on the right flank (getting some distance so they can use the indirect) Vindi in the center behind a wall with windows, Oblits on the right near the defiler, 1 rihno to the left near the basiie and defiler, one rhino near the oblits and defiler on the right.

I have deployed 1 HS fex and 1 stealer squad to the left, everything else to the right.

Well game starts and I win first turn.
HS fex on the left shoots defiler but does nothing, Walking tyrant with VC shoots at right defiler and does nothing, elite fexs out of range.
HS fex on the right shoots at a rhino.

VCs miss, BS shot hits, also clips a Obli, obli is wounded, fails save and is instakilled! rhino takes a penetrating hit....hulldown makes it a glance....glance 6 destroys it. 2 marines inside die in the explosion.

Iron warrior turn 1:
Indirect pelters a ravaner hiding behind 2 fexs, 1 wound onto the +400VPs ravaner, 1 wound onto a HS fex.

3 oblis shoot lascannons, 3 hits, 3 wounds, 1 tyrant guard gone, other one dies to the indirect blasts, tyrant also takes 1 wound. 5 T6 3+ save wounds gone in 1 turn! scary.

Tyranid turn 2:
Everything moves up, Winged tyrant hiding behind 2 fexs. 3 Wound walking tyrant is partially shielded by 2 fexs blocking los in front of it.
HS fex on the left shakes a rhino but extra armour means it does nothing.
Stealers on the left start moving up.

Zoan in center causes a penetrate on the vindi, hull down makes it a glance and it only takes a shaken result, which does nothing due to posession.

HS fex and walking tyrant fire on the defiler on the right and only manage to immobilise it!

Elite fexs not in range apart from 1 which shoots at the entangled CSM squad from the rhino, 3 models remain after all the shots are done, a Pfist vet, plasma and bolter (not enough range to reach all models meant a plasma had to go early)

IW turn 2:
Indirect kills ravaner, lord in center assaults zoanthroape, dealing 2 wounds 1 of which I save with the 6+ invul! Oblits and vindi cause 3 wounds to a wounded elite fex and it is removed. (instead of moving forward and rapid firing plasma the oblits moved back right next to the defiler for some reason)

Tyranid turn 3:
HS fex on the left destroys the defiler (was positioned infront of the bassie thus blocking the bassies los to the aproaching stealers now that it was destroyed)

HS fex on the right shoots at the defiler, BS hits, destroys the defiler with a penetrate, also hits 2 oblits and instakills 1!

VC tyrant shoots VCs and devourers at a oblit, obli dies to instakilling VC shot before I can even roll to wound with the devouerers.

Elite fex then kills the last obli with devourer fire.

Stealers assualt and kill the lord, thus saving the zoan!

another elite fex shoots 1 more csm from the ruined rhino squad, ravaner assualts the last 2 CSM but is Pfisted to death.

Well at this point it starts to feel like my opponent somewhat conceeds, he is left with only vindi (which I destroy with my winged tyrant in CC the very next turn (6 hits, 5 pens, a glance)

and a basilisk which is destroyed 2 turns later by rending from stealers.

1 rhino squad which tries to kill my winged tyrant with plasma fire....did not succeed. I easily destroyed them in the last few turns.

In the end I ended up losing 3 ravaners, elite fex and maybe the winged tyrant. 3rd turn of shooting was just devastating, so many instakilled oblits! 17/3 win. (wish I had chosen winged tyrant.

ournament is over, I went as follows:

Game 1 against: Space Marines 17/3
Game 2 against: Dark Eldar 15/5
Game 3 against: Mech Tau 15/5
Game 4 against: Ulthwe Strike Force 10/10
Game 5 against: Iron Warriors 17/3

Hmm actually that does not seem right, they never got round to posting the scores online so I cannot check, these points would tally me at 74, iirc I scored just under 70 though so I think I have a few scores are wrong.

May have been 13/7 against the tau and 13/7 against the DE....not sure, will update when the scores come online.

The tournament was won by a NECRON player that was massacred on turn 1, he then managed 3 massacres and a solid win in later games including massacreing the Ulthwe strikeforce list.

I think the council ran and was blocked from escaping or something.
2nd place was taken by a 8 Obli Iron warrior army with myself in 3rd place in game points.

The strikeforce came 4th.

Overall a great tourny, very varied lists I was against, (DE anyone?)
I didnt do aswell as normally but this had alot to do with the missions not having the normal 3000VPs available.

I didnt really care for the way most of the missions had a max of 1500VPs to be scored, made it hard to get massacres even when you should have.

As you could see from the first match, all my opponent had to do was to hide 1 squad and this made getting a massacre impossible,

I guess it worked for necrons though as it seems like they are an arm that either wins big or loses big.

No more batreps from me for 6 weeks though, seems there are not many tournaments here in Finland during the summer.

Next one will be another 2 day even though.

Just picked up 3500 pts of nids for 100 bucks, so it is gahrzirra attack time for me. 4 carnies (2 new, 2 old), 2 old hive tyrants, 2 new hive tyrants, and a passel of genestealers/zoanthropes, 4tw
