Hi!

Never tried to post a battle report in English before, so don?t expect too much.

One day before the tournament, I realised that all my armies where being painted somewhere else, so I would have to get a loan army. Great. Couple calls later, I got an army

The list looked like this:

Avatar of Khaine (HQ) @ 80 Pts Wailing Doom

Seer Council (HQ) @ 410 Pts 2 Farseer with Singing Spears and guide 3 Warlocks w/ 2 WB:s and 3 auguments 1 Farseer w/guide, fortune and spirit stones

5 Black Guardian Defender Squad (Troops) @ 90 Pts Shuriken Catapult 2 Black Grav Platform & Crew @ [50] Pts Shuriken Catapult (x2); Star Cannon (x1)

3 Rangers (Troops) @ 57 Pts
Shuriken Pistol; Ranger Long Rifle

1 Vyper Squadron (Fast Attack) @ 90 Pts Linked Shuriken Catapults (x1); Star Cannon (x1)

1 Vyper Squadron (Fast Attack) @ 90 Pts Linked Shuriken Catapults (x1); Star Cannon (x1)

1 Falcon Grav-Tank@ 240 Pts Shuriken Cannon Upgrade; Star Cannon; Pulse Laser Crystal Targetting Matrix Holo-Field Spirit Stone

1 Falcon Grav-Tank @ 240 Pts Shuriken Cannon Upgrade; Star Cannon; Pulse Laser Crystal Targetting Matrix Holo-Field Spirit
Stone

1 Falcon Grav-Tank
@ 240 Pts Shuriken Cannon Upgrade; Star Cannon; Pulse Laser Crystal Targetting Matrix Holo-Field Spirit Stone

Models in Army: 22 Total Army Cost: 1497

I think this is a strong and competitive list, but some modifications should be made. Trimming the falcons and the seer council, and adding vipers could do the trick.

So, 24 players shoed up, a little less than normally in a two day, 5 games tournament. But some very good players were there, so the power level was high.

 To the games then:

Game 1, Dawn of War(Points only from killing)

Against a Ulthwe strike force with 34 man seer council, two vipers, two war walkers and two units of guardians. Lots of starcannons, and big, resilient unit. Ouch.

And the player was good, he had won tournaments before, even big ones. Also this was the guy who owned the army which I was playing. So a very challenging start.

I could have gotten a minor victory from this if I would have been able to keep my Falcons alive, and destroy everything but the council. Nice plan, but I totally screwed it up. I deployed in a corner, so his seer council could catch my falcons. So I played 4 turns trying to hammer the council, killed only 15 models. Then he opened the gate on turn 5, and slaughtered my falcons with witchblades, and shot the rest of my army. Great. 0-20, massacre loss. I just played badly, no excuses.

Game 2, secure the bag (played like a cleanse, but in the centre there was bag that would give 400-800 VPs, if the unit which opened the bag would stay alive. No points from quarters)

Against a deathguard force, with 4 big normal squads, 1 block of demons, two predators and a GUO.

I deployed my falcons behind a big forest, council backing it up and ready to counter charge with avatar. Guardians and rangers in position to shoot up enemy units.

I played solo first 4 turns, Falcons making pop-up moves and hammering the deathguard. Then the demons came. A lucky scatter brought the plaguebeares in contact with the bag, and they opened it gaining 800vp if the squad would stay alive. The GUO charged avatar, and they chopped each other for the rest of the games. Looking like a massacre for me, but then something strange happened. I charged my 6 man council to 6 plaguemarines. Council hits, doesn?t do squat. Crap. Then the marines beat the hell out from my poor council. What the heck is this? Fortuned council gets beaten by a bunch of marines? Okay. Because of the incident, I got only a 15-5 victory. I don?t think I did any big mistakes, the dice just spitted in face. That happens sometimes. My opponent was new in the hobby, so he made some mistakes. Not big, but still.

Game 3, Fear of the Dark (Night fight cleanse, no points from kills)

Against iron warriors, with to 2 rhino squads(What!?), 4 pizza throwers, two las-plas marines, 4 oblits and a prince.

So its night fight, and opponent has 4 indirect ordnances? Not good. Again I deployed behind woods.

Then I got hammered by pizzas, and all my Falcons where stunned. Great. Seer council tried to save the day by charging an obliterator. They again miserably fail, and got beaten by a las-plas squad which came to aide. Crap. Can?t these guys do anything else right than guide falcons!? Avatar ate a rhino squad, and got beaten by the other. So, after all my falcons where destroyed, the game would be decided by a single roll: on which quarter would the defiler be? On 4+ I would lose the game 20-0, otherwise 17-3. 6. I was feeling down at this point, again I had played badly, and the dices were against me also. I perhaps would have won the game had I just played more aggressively, trying to take down the artillery battery that my opponent had. So, first day was a disappointment.

Day 2

Game 4, Enemy Territory (Recon, but everything starts in reserve unless you roll a 6 for the unit before the game starts)

Against pink Necrons, containing 15 destroyers, monolith and minimum troops.

This game was simple. I jump-shoot-jumped for he first 5 turns, then moved all my skimmers in to the opponents deployment zone. Seer council finally did something right and downed Monolith with singing spears. I had 800+ points on his deployment zone, and killed all the destroyers. He killed a viper. So massacre to me, 20-0.

Game 5, Head Hunting (Players would nominate a unit from their army, which would give the opponent extra 400 points)

Against a normal Ulthwe army, with 12 man seer council avatar, 4 guardian squad, 3 wraithlords, 4 vipers and striking scorpions.

Both of us nominated our seer councils. I moved up with my guided falcons, and laid down some serious firepower, slaughtering most of his seer council in few turns. My council and avatar had a beat down fest with opponents scorpions and avatar near the centre, my side winning the fight. The remains of the seer council were hunted down by my seers, and my refused flank strategy made he?s wraithlords totally useless. So I ended up winning 17-3.

In the end I was satisfied with the results. Full painting score and 52 play points gave me the 8th place, ending up 8/24. I could do better, but still a good result.

Some thoughts:
-List is good at victory point denial
-It works perfectly in objective based play
-Falcons are fun and challenging to play
-Can compete against good tournament army?s if played properly

Hopefully my English is readable. Comments are welcome.

Meh, I'm not a big fan of the army list.

Still, good showing at the tourney with an odd list that you don't normally play.  It looks like you learned as you went, which is the sign of any good player.

Falcons rule at Vp denial yes. But they can go south really fast.

Personally I like more active falcons - no CTMs, fill them with fire dragons, and go to town with alphastrikes. Nothing sucks more than when your opponent's uber squad gets wiped out by 18 fire dragons and 3 falcons

Nice showing though.

I must say I agree with Longshot in that Falcons are better in a very active role. An important thing to remember is that the falcon is a wonderful tank shock unit, and can be used to break up enemy formations with little fear of being shot down.

As for the battle report, your English is very good, so no worries there, and it was a well written battle report, and nice to see your good showing.

Try dropping the CTMs and rangers and put another vyper or two. A bit more mobility would make the list quite frightening.
