Anybody know if this is coming back? I figured it would be around for a while but I've seen people allude to it being finished, not sure where that rumours come from. It's been out of stock at GW for a few weeks.

Box sets like that are normally a "one and done" thing, but we'll have to see I guess.

Yeah. That's been the model for a while now.
Expect a month or two before the models are available separately.

It's saying temporarily out of stock on the site but is that unlikely to be the case then?

I asked my local GW manager a fortnight ago when the rumours started and he said then it's expected back in stock within 3 or 4 weeks, so give it another fortnight.

I had read somewhere it was getting one more print run and then OOP for good. Not sure if that meant this latest run or not.

Not shocked. Carrion Empire (FEC vs. Skaven) was sold out over the weekend it came out and went OOP immediately. It was sold for like 3 days.

But why..... People keep banging on about how costly it is to make moulds for plastic when resin is brought up..

So why would you make moulds and then only make a limited run where you could keep making it until it slows down in sales.

To artificially limit supply is my guess. It plays into the whole "luxury product" and "Apple of wargaming" mentality. You can't wait to buy something because it might sell out, better pre-order it the day it goes on sale to guarantee your copy. I'd venture a guess that's the intent: To discourage people from holding off on a purchase but instead just impulse buying it because it might be OOP by the time they decide.

Because they might have other plans for the products in question.

Serious question:
Has nobody found it odd that the Start Collecting sets for Marines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Chaos Marines all feature older products at this point?

They do a big release at maybe some vague discount, then a bit later sell the individual kits for the normal price, then add some card and sell the same kit to Kill Team players at a 40% increase Been like that for a while.

eBay resellers are buying an absurd amount of these and parting them out. The sell out has a lot to do with them (as a result of the high prices from GW).

It's a little silly to keep the box alive if you make separate kits, because once those kits are out....no one will buy the box.

They can't really sell these as individual kits outside of the Librarian, Captain, and the Summoner.

The Sergeants for the Eliminators, Suppressors, and the 'command group'(Smoke Grenade guy, Sergeant, and My First Apothecary) for the Infiltrators plus the Phobos Lieutenant are all on one sprue.
Then there is duplicates of a sprue giving you the kneeling Infiltrator, Suppressor rank and file, Astartes Solid Snake, and two Boltgun Infiltrators.
Chaos is two huge sprues with everything on them.

It's why myself and several others have been thinking these might get released as "Start Collecting" sets later.

Just speculation here, but it could make sense it the point is to get rid of the "old" product (rather than box any "left-over" by themselves) and encourage sales of those SC boxes because that's the only way to get the old product.

At least, that would make sense to me.

Talked to a GW store manager, they were all sold out. He said they expect to have the kits back in stock in a month.

This makes the most sense. If you look at what models are featured for each faction, they kinda look & feel exactly like a start collecting $90 box should be. it would be a decent value.

Primaris side could use as a replacement for Phobos Lib/Capt (clampak) would be an ETB Redemptor for good value.

Daemonkin is kinda perfect as it is.
