Good day! I have not played Warhammer 40k since I was a young lad back when everyone ran Rhino Rushing Black Templars and Blood Angels. I recently had a sporting injury which has made me decide to start up some new hobbies. Between the fluff and rule changes I feel like a complete newbie. I recently got a great deal on a bunch of Eldar models including a codex ($250 Canadian) and have been doing some research. I was hoping some much more knowledgeable individuals could help me on advice for what other models I could or should purchase to make a fun list that could still compete on casual games.

What I Own:

1 Eldrad
1 Farseer
3 Warlocks

20 Guardians
2x Shuriken Cannon Heavy Weapon Platforms

5x Wraithguard
1x Wraith Lord w/ 2 Shuriken Cannons and Wraith Fists
1x Wraith Knight w/ 2 Heavy Wraith Cannons
1x War Walker w/ 2 starcannons
5x Dark Reapers (1 with Tempest Launcher)

1x Vyper w/ two Shuriken Cannons
3x Windriders with Shuriken Cannons

1x Wave Serpent w/ Twin Bright Lance

I really love the Ulthwe look and have already started painting. I am thinking of making a list with most of the above models and adding more Troops, another Wave Serpent w/ Shuriken Cannon load out and maybe a few more reapers because I absolutely love them. I know some of these models are not super competitive but I more or less want to do well in casual play, have fun and use the models I purchased for such a steal. Any help with an army list would be much appreciated. Cheers!

My group allow proxy models so we can test different lists and also we allow the use of weapons that differ from the build model. Having good group is the most important think and you should probably start from there, the list you will build easy after that.

You should start with adding 2 infantry squads, it`s personal preference who will you choice
Guardians are plastic, but short ranged and usually are better at war 20 man blob so they can use the ultwe stratagem for +1 to hit.
Dire avengers are plastic, not really impressive rules, but still decent option. The problem is they come in packs of 5 and are expensive.
Rangers are good, but are resin who is really annoying to work with.
Storm guardians are very point efficient(compared with the rest), but except cheap bodies they dont provide any firepower. Still the cheapest option to hold objective. The problem is their kit is just upgrade and you have to get guardian squad and even than you don`t get enough chainswords to equip the entire squad.

You can build spearhead with the 3 heavy supports(DR, Lord, Walker) and get heavy auxilia detachment for the wraithknight.
The good part is depending on the weapons equiped on the wrathguard and windriders you have almost 2k points.

I will not buy more models except the infantry before i play 2-3 games. Something like that maybe:

Hi there,

Good to see more Craftworld Eldar popping up that aren't Alaitoc!

If you're just starting out again I would definitly recommend starting to play at lower point levels (say, 1000pts) using the models that you already own and proxying an additional 10 Guardians so that you can fill a Battalion Detachment (minimum 2 HQ, 3 Troops).

I say this because Stratagems are a new mechanic that is integral to this edition of the game, so its really important that determine how much you enjoy using the mechanic before building a list. If you like to use a lot of stratagems, you will definitely need a Battalion (or even Brigade) in order to fund the CP cost, but if you are not too concerned you could throw the items that you already own together and I'd be confident that you would have some fun.

For Ulthwe, I would suggest that you read through the following stratagems:
- Guardian Shield
- Black Guardians
- Seer Council
- Concordance of Power
- Webway Assault
- Phantasm

The above abilities really synergise with your short-range Guardian units and bevvy of psychic powers to produce a surprisingly powerful, mobile, strike force.

Happy hunting

I appreciate the tips from both of you! The local store here has some cool cats and I think the owner is going to help me with the new rules. Wish I could learn right meow but the schedule is kinda nuts. Also, it is looking like based on your recommendations to play the units at lower points costs and invest in some more troops like Guardians.
