I've discussed this model project before, but it frequently happens that life happens, or I procrastinate, and nothing moves along; conveniently, it's still in a good spot to make color changes, so if anyone has some advice I take, I don't have to strip anything. We all know I also ramble/explain, so there will be that. Here we go!

Rogue Traders are some of my favorite characters in 40k; for the most part, they are mere mortals, but they have nigh-unlimited resources, can field just about anything regarding troops, gear, and tech level, and on it goes. When Fantasy Flight Game's "Rogue Trader" was still a thing, I invented several Rogue Trader characters, and one of them, which is this one, is one of my most in-depth, detailed builds I've ever done (roughly 45 pages of his accumulated history, accomplishments, assets, retainers, and self-insertion achievements even I feel ashamed to have included), so 40k's model range gave me a wonderful opportunity other RPG minis don't always manage, and allow me to build a custom mini. That's been a three-year dodge-a-thon of work, but I might find a chance here, in the near future, to actually sit down and paint, so I'll bother folks here for some advice. I don't totally like the two new Rogue Trader models, as they look sort of silly, and while i get that they probably look "right", I'm going for a slightly more utilitarian look, I suppose.

Lord-Captain Aedan Qel-Drake is a young human male. As it stands, I'm planning to use mostly a Tempestus Scion body. He wears carapace, so that's good, and his long coat is actually made of salamander scales, like the hero mantles Salamander HQs can field. He'll use a custom head (Pathfinder), and I plan to TRY and make a more decorative, large-scale base for him to stand on/attach to, so it will supply some flash, someday. I got the coat green-stuffed, and I plan for it to be shades of green, as fits with the creature. He has actual history with the Salamanders, and I plan for him to have an overall green color scheme, but then I imagine the model; the clothes are black, with green plates, gold trim. He has a different shade green coat over that, and an uncovered head. He has a fancy Eldar power sword, and red-metal inferno pistol. Other than the silver blade, and red gun, that's a lot of two shades of green, on black.

I think I might be open to some other color ideas for the carapace armor (what of it the coat doesn't cover), but I can't think of what to pick for colors/shades. He's got a lot of me invested, so I'd rather it look good, but my brain doesn't want to risk bad color choices. Should the armor be green, too, to keep the theme, or maybe something else, to add some diversity? I don't want him TOO flashy/ostentatious, even being a Rogue Trader, but bland is bad, and I don't know if the greens will just blur together, and not POP! He has an entourage, but the model diversity doesn't quite cover them, so I don't have plans to make them, yet, but I don't know if they'd also garb in green, like their master, or other colors, for diversity?

Any suggestions would be nice. He has numerous "dragon" and "wyrm" references, so green is a good choice, but if any more artistically-minded folks can think of another good color to compliment the green scale-coat, that would be good to know. I don't want to use the "regular" scheme of the Mil Temp, so I'm sort of thinking avoid that shade, but then I'm asking, so ideas would be appreciated.

Please have a good one!

red, reddy orange, reddy purple are your complimentary colours for green, so choose these tones for contrasting areas. you could also use a warm brown which would compliment the green, you could paint his face in cooler tones for a small bit of high contrast. if you need to break up areas you could always use black areas with warm highlights.
