I thought it might be fun to have a thread about this amazing group which recounts history through their songs. They just released an amazing single called Bismarck and in two months they will be dropping a new album entitled "The Great War".

Sabaton are responsible for more of my historical knowledge than everything else put together.

I can still remember watching a TV programme about St. Petersburg and the narrator building up to a discussion about a battle, which led me to exclaim "Ooh! I wonder if this is Poltava?" to my wife.

Yep, they went on to talk about Poltava. I could tell that my wife was impressed...

I've started to watch the Sabaton History Channel on YouTube as well - pretty good stuff.

Man, Sabaton should totally do a 40k album about the rise and fall of Horus, like the Carolus Rex album... Would be glorious.

My years of 40k are well behind me, so if Joachim ditched his love of real tanks for Land Raiders, then I think that I'd cry...

However, as I'm eagerly awaiting my Joan of Arc Kickstarter to arrive, I'd love an album based on the Hundred Years War! Failing that, I'll just be content with Carolus Rex and pretend it goes with the game - what's 300 years and a few hundred miles difference matter when it's that awesome?

Still a bit miffed they haven't done a song about Warspite yet. "Grand Old Lady" is a free song title!

Also a bit surprised they didn't include a song about Jutland in a WW1 album.

Other than that, Sabaton is what got me into metal at all. I'm mostly into classical, but Sabaton spoke to my inner history buff.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.
