Subject: Salvage by the Adeptus Mechanicus?

Is there any setting material – from codices, novels, or RPG books – that deals with salvage/recycle efforts by the Adeptus Mechanicus?
To clarify, I'm not referring to archaeotech or high-level investigations. More like... when there's a big fight against Orks, who scours the battlefield afterward, identifies the wrecked Trukk based on a looted Leman Russ, judges whether it can be salvaged, and scrapes all the Ork junk off so it can be shipped back to a Forge World to be repaired and reused? Same question for Chaos vehicles; who determines if a machine spirit can be reconsecrated, or if gear used by traitors is irredeemably tainted and must be destroyed? It's got to happen, or else you'd have lasguns covered in Chaos markings constantly floating around the black market, but who takes care of all that?

The AdMech and Departmento Munitorum both have units that do this. There's a Gaunt's Ghosts short story about it (The Headstone and the Hammerstone Kings), and one of the Tech-Priests in the "Forge of Mars" trilogy has a background in it.

Was about to say it's mentioned in Forges of Mars. There's also numerous references in Black Library to salvage yards (space station ones) for broken space ship hulls (one in Wicked and the Damned for instance).

'The Last Ascenscion of Dominic Seroff,' by David Annandale, is a story that takes place on a planet that does such recycling efforts (although they aren't a big focal point of the story). It's published in the new horror compilation Maledictions.

Also Roboute Guilliman has recently told the AM to stop salvaging captured Chaos ships, as he believes they are too deeply contaminated by the warp. Which obviously implies that they HAD been salvaging them.

Of course they have; that's been part of the fluff since Battlefleet Gothic was released. After all, lots of Chaos ships are examples of lost technology that date from the heresy or early in the Imperium's history.

Yeah he ordered to stop salvaging chaos warship wrecks but Im not sure if he said tanks and so. The admech take the spirit far more than the exact intention and might try to savage superheavy tanks probbly. Especially shadowsords or so even with the danger.
Though even with not advanced wrecks. Cawl is pushing a more inovetive admech, that is risking a schism to say the least.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |
