Hello friendly Mod teams.

Just putting feelers out for possible future Lootin'.

FB group I run isn't to everyone's taste, as not everyone wants to use social media.

So would it be ok if I ran a Loot Thread on Dakka, as and when opportunities arise?

Are you thinking of a specific looting per thread? Sort of a swap-shop thread per show/store-opening?
I'd be up for that, as I expect most looters/lootees came through Dakka to get to your FB group anyway.
But, Dakka is more anonymous than FB. More chance of scams.

Disclaimer: I'm no mod, and I have no Dakka-power.

It’d be exactly the same rules as my FB group.

All payments via PayPal, strictly ‘Goods & Services’, with buyer adding the fee as part of the cost.

And it’d only be me doing the Looting, as I’d hope I’ve enough good faith through the main group to be trusted!

I’d also likely keep it to a set number of Lootees, say 10 for argument’s sake. Just means I don’t spend a whole day in the post office queue!

In theory it’s nice and straight forward. Confirm order, confirm price and postage, I get paid, I go Loot, I post.

But, I get that Dakka might not be open to the forum’s reputational risk in case of stuff going wonky. As you say, there’s an anonymity on here that FB doesn’t offer.

I'll punt this to the Swapshop mods for discussion (as it's more our forte than the general mod team). Can't promise a quick answer, but we'll get back to you.

I do think the anonymity of forum posting makes this a bit of a better fit for Facebook. Stuff like this sometimes happens in the DCM forum, but there people are at least committed in the sense that they've donated to the site.

Back before Paypal, the Swap Shop really felt like the wild wild west . Given that the payments would just be going to you through Paypal, I'm not sure about scam potential (maybe someone claiming they didn't receive the item - but that seems like a stretch with Paypal's controls now, if you were documenting things well). But still might be a better fit for Facebook where you've got at least a little more accountability.
