Quick question I have not played Warmachine in years the last edition of the rules I had was Remix I think. So wanted to get some info from people that play or are at least current on the game.

A local guy wants to sell me some Menoth models most are old stuff like I had and some is newer that I don't know what they are. Are all the old models still usable in the game? I understand new stuff gets better and old models aren't as good but as a base set of stuff to get started the old stuff still good?

I'm thinking for the right price I could paint these up and use them to show my kids how the game works maybe use it as a starting point for a menoth force.

Thanks
Stephen

Every model ever made for the range is still valid.

Also, power has less to do with age as it does with what theme it fits in. They're doing balance passes one theme at a time that ensures everything in a theme has a place, but it tends to mean things that haven't gotten a polish waver behind. For Menoth, the Exemplar stuff recently got redone and is generally all pretty good.

Thanks for info. I bought the stuff but not got it yet. Will pick it up this week.

I think there are 12 Jack's, 2 infantry units, 3 or 4 casters and a few solos all for $100 cant go too wrong. Will pick up a pack of cards so I have the updated ones.

Don't buy the cards, they will likely be outdated. Due to PP's "Community Integrated Development" system, models can get their stats and rules tweaked every now and again. Instead PP has provided a service to download the most up-to-date cards in printable PDFs for free: https://cards.privateerpress.com

Alternately use PP's app or something, as this should always be up-to-date.

No problem. BTW if you want to visit forums with a lot more Warmachine/Hordes discussion go to the Lormahordes forums (no, that's not a typo, it starts with an "L").

Or search "Warmachine and Hordes General" on Facebook. Most of the useful conversations about W</H are on the social media platforms these days.

Lormahordes is ok. but a bit of a dumpster fire at times. >

I will check out the forums. I'm not on Facebook so those won't work for me.

They have not "squatted" anything, so it's all still valid. How good it is is not as simple as how old it is, there's plenty of old models that are still strong. I recommend looking at the wiki:

As was mentioned by someone else, theme forces are very important to this game. They limit you to certain parts of a faction but give big enough benefits that they're almost always worth it.

Since you're talking about a bunch of Menoth warjacks, look here:

Thanks for those links. I have been reading up on theme armies and looks like I have a good start here if we enjoy the game, if not will paint them up and put them on Ebay.

Not strictly true. A number of theme lists, some of which involved cross-faction options, have been removed. Many have been consolidated, but I sure know I bought some kits purely for theme lists that are no longer valid.

and that's a good point. There were some cross faction options, where say, Magnus (a merc caster) could take a ton of Cygnar units. That might not be a possibility. They are also opening more of that up with themes.

So, while not every list is still legal, every model is still usable as something.
