Everyone's getting into this printing lark. Me too. This project has some simple rules.

1) Everything home made
2) Everything quick to print
3) Everything at low resolution on account of rules 1 & 2.

First up is the proof of concept. Learned a lot from this one, so future efforts should be much better.

Nice! Great thing about 3d printed wood and stone is that a bit of added texture from the layering doesn't look so bad, because you expect those materials to have a rougher texture.

Building no.2 is done. I'm getting better at the sculpting (fixed a few errors after this was printed), but my printing results have gone done the toilet.

And one for scale. A 25mm base will fit between the bannister and wall, more by luck than planning.

It's taken a while, but my first few proper buildings are sorted.

Wow, Henry - those came out great!! Will you be selling or posting the larger building designs anywhere?

I have running my resin printer to death over the past few months and this looks like it could get me to dust off the Ender 3 and fire it up!!

Well this project is a bit stop and start.

I have completed my (for the time being!) masterpiece. She's a big 'un. Turned out really well - I think I've got the design of the roof nailed now.

While the printer begins its month long quest to print the gaming board, I've returned to another project I had in mind.
A Space Hulk board.
The test case turned out pretty good, though I have to use a more expensive filament to get good detail.
I've created enough designs that the corridors will have good variation. Now to start on the rooms.

Space Hulk corridors looking fantastic. Thanks for sharing, this technology is very exciting and great to watch people use it for the hobby

Good to see you back at the printer. I just got an Ender 3 this spring while on Furlough, excited to see all the possibilities.

What custom settings have you used on the printer if I may ask. I started a 3d printing thread here on Dakkadakka for everyone to develope a community and hopefully get a forum up and running.

I've made a fair number of changes to the design. 40mm was too large to be practical and 30mm was too fiddly to fit miniatures into. I've compromised at 32mm and it's looking good. The doors work perfect now too, slipping into the recesses without resistance but also without shaking too much. There are now aligners on one side of every wall and there's space for 3mmx1mm magnets to be added.

It also turns out that the dozen walls I'd designed became repetitive rather quickly, so I'm knocking up new designs almost every day.

All in all going quite well. The eagle turned out amazing - though if I end up distributing this I will have to remove the eagle as it's GW's.

Speaking of which - if I were to distribute this how many people do you reckon would be interested? I only need to cover the cost of the licence from the software developer.

This is about half of the first suicide mission so far:

There's 67 corridors/rooms and 40 doors in the boxed game. So far I've got 12 corridors/rooms and 2 doors. This might take a while.

Space hulk looking absolutely gorgeous, and always nice to see a variety of terrain on display.

So excited to see you progress on the Space Hulk - hope it isn't too painful working on it all!

Thanks for sharing

The Hulk got completed and looks good but I, uh, made some mistakes. I made the board before I had the models so it's too small. I might address it again some day but it did give me some cool sci-fi assets that I can work into other pieces.

Ah - can you tweak the scaling and make it a wee bit bigger? Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about 3D printing!!

It would be faster to print off a bunch of models that do fit

It looks really good. Sorry to hear it’s not quite working out.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Scaling is really easy to do, it's more of the concept that's the problem. Each square is 32mm square with a 0.5mm lip on each side so each square is partitioned. This makes the biggest map roughly 3ft by 4ft which is just about small enough to game on - any bigger and it becomes unpractical. The miniatures would probably need 40mm squares to fit in and I've no idea how to fit the brood lord in. I don't know where to go next, I've got a full board and no miniatures of a suitable scale to fit in it. If anyone wants the files to play with they're welcome to them.

That honestly sounds like the best idea, shame I hadn't worked that out before I bought enough terminators and stealers to play it - oh well
