Hi folks,

this thread will maybe be just me rambling but is anyone else also really bothered with the lack of Legion specific Artworks in the newest FW book? The older books were lavishly filled with coloured plates of different Legionaries, Vehicles, Titans, Flyers etc with all manner of little lore tidbits, mini discussions of Legion Specific Armour Patterns (like the UM Praetorian sub type or the 1kSons Nemes pattern) like here:

Spoiler:

I always found this awesome, I personally don't play TT and I read the Black Books mostly because of the lore and this always felt like a real history book to me because of those cool plates, but when I read Malevolence and while a few things were there I was kinda baffeld looking at the BA and WS pages which have like one or two Heresy Era Marines a few dreads and vehicles and then pretty much just stop. I checked if I imagined things and when I looked over my old books who have pages upon pages of Iron Hands and UM marines and I was just "whait thats really it?".
I wonder if this has anything to do with the limited page amount due to them including the updated Custodes armylist, which IMHO should've just been released as PDF and left out of the Book, like we had Custodes last book no need to put the whole armylist in there again even if it was revamped.

I hope this is not a future trend as the Heresy era Dark Angels seem to have very distinct variations in heraldry between the wings and so on. Those little fluff pics of different marine coulour schemes and little lore tidbits made this universe feel more alive to me and I really don't want to lose this.

Cheers!

I recon you're on the money with the assumption of limited space due to being jam-packed with army list

Perhaps they are going to do what they did with 'Betrayal' and 'Massacre' - in the former, the emperors children had 18 pages of fluff and pictures and six pages of rules - this was added to in the latter with 4 more pages of fluff and pictures; the difference being that 'Betrayal' featured a rundown of the entire setting and the history of the imperium as well as the complete (at the time) Legion Marine Army List and Mechanicum allies as well as Titans, Apocalypse rules, The Isstvan 3 campain system as well as the Zone Mortalis rules for indoor games - all 'Massacre had to do was add more fluff, stuff and rules tacked onto the Isstvan 5 campain and an expanded Mechanicum army list.

In terms of number of pages, the legions introduced in 'Massacre' get much more - Iron Hands get 28 pages of f&p and 8 pages of rules.
That continues in 'Extermination' where the Iron Warriors get 26 pages of f&p and 8 pages of rules.

Again, in 'Tempest' your Ultramarine Legion get a whopping 34 pages of f&p and (surprise, surprise) 8 pages of rules. The Word bearers are an anomaly because in the same book they get 12 pages of f&p but they then do get 12 pages of rules in recompense.

I recon the Dark Angels are due a similarly sized chunk of the next book like the Ultramarines did in 'Tempest'

I'll be really torqued if they cut the Blood Angels artwork due to cleaning up the cluster- Custodies from book 7. Maybe they should have gone back and "fixed" book 7 with a second print run instead. I was really looking forward to some awesome Heresy era Blood Angels artwork.

Yeah me too. I was expecting cool Terminator art for the Angles and the Scars. They are quite cool legions and you can do quite much with them so it saddens me even more that there is not all to much in there

Perhaps this is feedback you might want to send to Forgeworld and/or Games Workshop proper?

I think it's because of the passing of mr bligh. He was the heart and soul of the heresy both in the fw30k game and the bl books. I have noticed the quality of the fw books have dropped dramatically since his passing. I have yet to read book 8 yet but this doesn't fill me with hope.

The bell of lost souls screams out a single deafening peal upon the death of a great hero. The sound is heard by millions and resonates through the empyrean so that all of mankind in the galaxy will turn their thoughts to their loss.

Rip.

I assume it’s because Malevolence was a little rushed after they decided to change it from the Dark Angels and Blood Angels to the Blood Angels and White Scars. If their excuse is space… there are quite a few text pages that are half-empty or worse, suggesting that some editing or reformatting could’ve gained back that space.

They’ve shown us some art that didn’t make it into the book, like a White Scars destroyer mostly in red. Probably just completed after the book had gone to the printers.

It’s my only major disappointment with the book. I should be happier about the number of special units we got, but I think I’d rather have the treatment that the early legions received.
