Hey guys, i'll keep this short and sweet, welcome! I couldn't stay away from Marines and this is my new start, my new venture back into the armies I feel most comfortable with, and staying with HH it means I can happily continue with the size and units I prefer

So, yes, I have begun an Iron Warriors legion force, so far I've a Basilisk for artillery (and I found it in the shed) and a tactical squad in MK3 armour.

I started painting them and have to try and remember how I can get the right metal so far, it's Agrax, Nuln and Sepia, i'll go back and go nuln again before highlighting and hopefully it'll look good enough as I don't want to go rusty but I may use a bit on the vehicles for age and wear?

here's some updates for your critiques.

Lets get this corpse grinder started!

Needs more bionics.

Their armor and equipment should be in good shape. Though they fought battles in the trenches and toe to toe with enemies, they also had to sit and wait, and wait, and wait while garrisoning backwater worlds. They would meticulously field strip their gear and constantly improve defenses. Their troops would be patched up to go back to the front lines quickly, sometimes before they were ready, but the downtime was worse than the fighting. They would get rusty while sitting, but sharpened when forced to fight in conflict after conflict. Lack of supplies forced them to improvise and take short cuts.

At least this is how I always read them.

Liking the colors so far.

Really good looking steel! A bit of dirt and scratches, but the weathering's not overdone. Is the brown/ochre a base color for yellow and hazard stripes, or what are you doing with it?

Regarding the rust and vehicles, I think a little rust would be good. Maybe go more for scratches, dust and even mud, with a bit of rust, so that the vehicles look well maintained but not meticulously polished.

Oh these are looking killer already. I agree on the need for more bionics. I wouldn't go over board with them though. That leads towards Iron Hands territory. We wouldn't want that now.

Not enough hazard stripes, and maybe some brass/gold highlights as traditional.

Basic colours are looking ace!

They look great! I usually throw some purple, blue, and green (along with agrax, nuln, and sepia) on my metals in very small doses. It's something I picked up from Paradigm a while back, though it looks better when he does it

Thanks guys, glad you like the progress so far! I would love to have some bionics in the force but i'm having trouble finding some that don't cost an arm and a leg

I got more armour done and think i've got my balance right for them now, it's a mix of my Minotaurs armour and my dirty Ork armour I just pulled back a bit on the colours and got a maintained but worn hard looking armour. I may go back and re edge with silver? not sure yet but so far I am liking them and feel happy that over an army they'd look impressive and suitably Iron Warriors.

I did a little on the artillery and the pads getting ready for weathering them up, I like the chipping as it hides a multitude of sins with the black hazard stripes

All starting to take shape .

The orange rust I saw a little bright , maybe add a smidge of brown in to that to tone it back a bit.

Great job so far, keep it up!

I think a touch of brown might tone down the rust a little bit, it'll make it earthier and match the dark theme of your army.

NOW they're looking like Iron Warriors.

Agreed on toning down the orange.

Did you really think I would leave the rust bright orange? I think i've finished them apart from the bases so i'll take proper shots then but here's a few phone pics of them to show the detail and how I want the entire force to 'feel' i'm excited to do some bigger stuff when they arrive!

i'm also going to put them in Armies on Parade this year so I'll be starting a board soon for them featuring a trench and a wall..........

AWESOME BRO. I love the bright orange rust. Its funky. unique. Cartoony almost in an abstract modernist sorta way. I think you should keep it as a strong theme in the army...but im crazy.

Had to point out the orange as I rarely get to critique your work .

Great work on all the highlights, and your posting of doing a board may be the only time I need existence I will look forward to seeing a wall and a trench painted up .

Looking great!

Can you share your paint recipe for the power armor stuff?

It looks perfect for a small project I'm looking to start.

He uses paints he creates from milking marsupials and drop bears. He has to work quick as the pigments don’t last for long and no way of transporting the pigments have been found to preserve them. You’ll either have to import said creatures yourself and “harvest” the pigments, or do the unthinkable and move to the bottom side of the planet where you might fall off .

The bruising around that bionic eye is beautifully done, they are all masterfully done as usual. Incredible work nerdy.

Those are utterly stunning, Damo.
Personally, I feel like you should double down on the weathering and chip them into oblivion. Usually I'm a less is more kinda guy, but I feel like you'd be able to pull off the extremely battle-worn look.

I'm pleasantly suprised that this thread has garnered the interest and comments of so many so soon! I thought I may peak someone's interest in IW's but it even got Az to comment I have got some pics of them done and I hope they make you keen to see more! I had a rather fortunate conversation with a friend who has informed me he has 3 quad mortars and a fw spartan he is going to give me! GIVE ME!!! he says he has too many projects and he's had the models for years.

But until then, lets have a look!

And here's the start of my AoP board, I used extruded foam as the base and made a rough wall around it then filled it with expanding foam, this will make it an easier product to cut into shape and carve a trench or two into, I also made a start on some walls for the trenches to line them.

Sepia
?
