Hey guys, I'm new to AoS, wanted to try out Gloomspite Gitz as I really like the squig and troll models. Everyone in my area plays at 2000 points so I'll need to build toward that. I've put together this list, I just want to make sure it'll function OK on the tabletop. It doesn't have to be super competitive.

Squigalanche – 90
Loonboss on Mangler Squig
Squig Hoppers x 5
Squig Hoppers x 5
Squig Hoppers x 5
Squig Hoppers x 5
Mangler Squig

Troggherd
Dankhold Trogboss
Fellwater Troggoths x 3
Fellwater Troggoths x 3
Rockgut Troggoths x 3

Total – 1950

My thought was to use the squig hoppers as a first wave to shield the troggoths. I'm not sure who to make my general (I was thinking the loonboss, but if it should be the trogboss I could change it), and not certain which artifacts would be best.

Any advice appreciated, Cheers!

Welcome to the Mortal Realms! My vote would be to make the Troggboss the general, then the Troggoths can be battleline, which helps them get forward faster in some missions, and to be in puking and boulder-throwing range sooner!

Also doing that would let the squighoppers be bigger units I think? Can't remember how many the Squigalanche requires....or is the Squigalanche the one that requires a battalion within the battalion?

For the Troggboss, I'd give him Loonskin, and make the army from Aqshy, and he could have the Thermalrider Cloak to be SuperTrogg and fly real fast! And the Loonboss could have Ignax's Scales to make him more durable, or the Clammy Cowl is good for him too.

I still haven't used my Gitz (I'm heavy in Spiderfang) but I've played against them and they are always FUN!

Did you factor in the points for the Squig Rider Stampede battalion? You need it for Squigalanche.

The only way I can get his points total is without the Squig Rider Stampede battalion and with a Troggherd battalion.

You guys are right, I forgot to include the points for the Squig Rider Stampede. Here's a new list updated with advice from above.

Squigalanche
Loonboss on Mangler Squig
- Ignax's Scale, Clammy Cowl
Mangler Squig
Squig Rider Stampede
Squig Hoppers x 10
Squig Hoppers x 5

Troggherd
Dankhold Trogboss – General - Loonskin
- Glowy Howzit, Thermalrider Cloak
Fellwater Troggoths
Fellwater Troggoths
Rockgut Troggoths

Total – 2000

Am I right in thinking I get 4 artifacts for this list? 3 warscroll battalions. Or does the battlion in the battalion not count?

From page 242 of the Age of Sigmar Core Rules:

A HERO cannot have more than one artefact of power,...

So while each battalion would allow an extra artefact, you're limited to two artefacts since you only have two HEROES.

I think this list might be suffering from spending too many points on battalions and not enough on the units they buff, but at the same time it fits together nicely and seems like a lot of fun. Dropping the troggherd battalion would let you put a loonboss on cave squig into the squigalanche, and you would have three characters to carry your three artifacts.

If he drops the Troggherd he'd only have 2 artefacts then, but still very good. Actually the Troggherd isn't a very good battalion for 190 points. And I'm just realizing this Gitz army has no wizards! Those Troggherd points are probably better spent on a Fungoid Cave Shaman and the Mighty Mushroom and Scuttletide spells, which are awesome!

Nope, he'd have three. He'd have the one free artefact, and one for each warscroll battalion (i.e., the Squig Rider Stampede and the Squigalanche battalions).

Oh, my bad, Interesting that we could have 4 artefacts!

OK, third time is the charm hahaha. I thought I might add more squig hoppers rather than the endless spells, as they come in boxes of 10 anyway, and down the track I could buy the endless spells and give them a whirl.

Squigalanche
Loonboss on Mangler Squig
- Clammy Cowl
Mangler Squig
Squig Rider Stampede
Squig Hoppers x 10
Squig Hoppers x 10

Dankhold Trogboss – General (Loonskin)
-Glowy Howzit
Fellwater Troggoths x 3
Fellwater Troggoths x 3
Rockgut Troggoths x 3

Fungoid Cave Shaman
-Thermalrider Cape

Total – 2000

I think the cape would be good on the shaman so he can keep up with the squigs and trolls, and I've seen a few battle reports where the glowy howzit seems to work well on a trogboss.

I could swap out the fungoid cave shaman and 5 squig hoppers for a loonboss on a cave squig and a squig herd. not sure which would be preferable/easier for a new player.

Looks good to me.

It's always fun to have a flying wizard, definitely keep the Fungoid Shaman in there!

Also I might recommend using the Ignax's Scales instead of the Glowy Howzit, as IIRC he can eat the Howzit if he rolls a 1 when using it, whereas the Scales cannot be eaten accidentally.

Fair point hahaha. Though I think Ignax's Scale is mortal wounds only, but the Glowy Howzit is wounds and mortal wounds?

Thanks for all the help guys, I'll start chipping away at getting the models and building/painting.

Glowy Howzit is too much fun to leave at home anyways!
