Came home to my sub copy of the new WD.

Quick run down? Not a huge amount this month, I have to say.

New rules for Blackstone Fortress, and a recreation of Blood Bowl XVIII Final between Skaven and Orcs, including such rules as a sloping pitch,

Tome Celestial covers The Sempiternals Stormcast Chamber,

And that’s about it, barring the usual short stories (rarely unwelcome) and a lot of painting articles, including on Source Lighting as an Eavy Metal Masterclass.

Not bad if you like BSF and Blood Bowl, and given I pay relatively little thanks to my subscription an ok issue, but as a single? Be warned if you only play 40k, there’s nowt much in this for you.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
BSF rules are for visiting Precipice between missions, rather than the attached ships.

And just like WHQ of old - this place will eff you up.

Locations are.....

1. The Shadows. Basically the dark and ‘orrid back alleys. D20 results include getting murdered to death until you’re dead, Mugged, Suffer a Wound but get a Discovery Card, draw a Discovery Card, Pick one of three Discovery Cards, and draw Two Discovery cards.

2. The Helsman. TO THE PUB! Where you could get drunk and then murdered to death until you’re dead, getting lightly beaten up (lose a wound) all the way up to Two Clue Cards. If there are no more Clue Cards, get two inspiration points instead.

3. The Trading Post. You could get bugger all, and lose a resource card, or ideally, get a ‘free use’ of a resource card.

4. The Gambling Den. Could get murdered to death until your dead, could win big time. Roll that D20, traveller!

Pretty decent expansion I’d say, and nice to see a return to visiting a town being far more deadly than a Dungeon, I mean, if you didn’t survive fighting a Bloodthirster, only to get stabbed to death by a crackhead toddler whilst taking a wee? Did you even Quest, Bro?

Yup.

I mean, the content that’s there is pretty decent. It’s just the 40k stuff is light, and Hobbity stuff entirely absent. So not really an issue with universal appeal.

I’ve not been enjoying WD since the move to this current format at the start of the year. There just isn’t enough enjoyable content in there for me anymore.

I'm just having hell getting them to deliver to me. I am still waiting on the July issue...which should be delivered today. Who knows when I'll get the August issue.

I suppose there was a printing issue or something that delayed a portion of the July issues, but this same thing happened when I last subscribed.

Urusei Yatsura, Cerebus the Aardvark, Machiavelli, Plato and Happy Days. So, how was your childhood?

Have the same issue, so its not unique to you, for what its worth.

I prefer it now, honestly. The only thing that’s really changed is that it doesn’t have new release stuff in it, and that was always all over Facebook before I even got my copy anyway.

I think the last few issues have been a big improvement. The big new release section was just wasted space, since I had already seen all of it before I got my issue. I really like that they are including short stories and background. They have also been doing more modelling and terrain articles. I also like that they are including rules, even though they are often things I'll never use. I hopefully will make use of the Blackstone fortress rules.

I've had the same problem as some others with getting issues on time or at all. The service has been pretty bad. Most issues arrive at least a week after it's in shops, and several never arrived and I had to request a replacement. And to top it off, they never bothered letting me know when my subscription was going to end so I could resubscribe in time, so I completely missed one issue. So terrible service overall, but the content I have mostly liked.

I like the current White Dwarf better too.

There was a time, when White Dwarf was more like an extra thick advertisement folder that you actually had to pay for, instead of a hobby magazine. Now, even if my prefered games get little attention, I know next issue will likely compensate for that, and the current issue might have other interesting stuff (like the OSL article, applicable to all lines and games with miniatures).

Then again, I have seen the decline of the magazine first hand, old coot as I am turning into. I remember the time when White Dwarf had the technical templates which you could copy, transfer to card stock or foam card, and then use the parts to build a Baneblade. Or an article about building your own tomb or cairn hill, complete with removable top, and playable interior.

Those days... * sigh*.

I'm in the same boat, I usually get it about 2 weeks after I see it on the shelf at my FLGS now, if I'm lucky. They have had to send out replacements twice this year so far.

Dunno, didn't read the article. There is a named character for them though. Will check when I get in.

Think I have to catch up on the White Dwarf issues because I do need them for the BSF rules, other than that I think they're not much use to me. I do want the rules but it's a bit of a waste if that's all I need the magazine for.

Little bit disappointed that its the 1st Anniversary of Adeptus Titanicus this month and nothing to celebrate that. But there was Crusade Legio rules last month so its not a big deal or anything. Would have been nice, though...

Ummm...like the Stormcast bit, especially the Knight-Incantor as I'm due to paint one. Just wish he came with an alternative head or helmet. I like the skull one in the picture.

Bit of a quiet month by the looks of it.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.
