Needing to have one of the three in order to make ynnari detachments ruins basically any kind of useful ynnari detachment that could be good. Wraithseer supreme command for example. They cost an absurd amount of points and frankly are kinda bad for what you pay. Yvraine is the same cost as a bike farseer and I would rather take the farseer any day of the week. Eldrad for a couple points more is tremendously better. The visarch would still be a medium unit/solid aura hq for cp farm if he costed 40 points less. The special rule the Avatar gets on his weapon is reroll wounds? Really...the buff ynnari do super well having multiple sources of already. What is he supposed to cast now?

Combining ynnari with two of the factions starts to become even more of tax and if you want all three (maybe to use that stratagem) you are down over 500 points. Having two mitigates the opportunity cost of not playing mainbook stuff as now wyches get doom for example. But again good luck making a playable close combat army with no delivery system and an extreme cost just to get into it.

Is it really to much to ask to play ynnari without the triumvite?

Ynnari were a crap design...and in no way should have become a faction (though I'm sure the Primaris-ed Eldar will be Ynnari based when they get revamped). It was a poorly designed/launched idea and remains so.

Fair enough, personally I don't know much about the fluff; i'm very much into the gaming and artistic side of it so I just see them as 'soul elves' that generate energy of death. To me that's a neat enough concept that its a shame they are garbage and garbage solely because there taxed with garbage special characters.

Correct they all are over costed.

The Yncarne one of my favorite models was barely when it could double fight, heroic after teleporting, etc.. and most players thought it was overcosted back then, now all that is taken away its extremely over costed. Sure its a 9 wound character with some Auras, but its NOT a aura viable unit, its meant to go off on its own and teleport into/out of support , no one is going to use a 337pt model to give FnPm especially to models that might already have it..... it really needs to be 280 at the most.

The Visarch is just an Archon with body guard rule for Yvarine (which is pointless) and a chance to regain wounds back (which doesnt matter as he is only 5 wounds and Toughness 3), but b.c he is named no picking relic or WL trait, he really needs to be 80-90pts most.

Yvarine now.... well she is almost perfect for her points, she is equal to an archon i melee (she has a huskblade), but she also can cast 2 times, so like a farseer, so really she is fine.


If Yncarne and Visarch goes down (280 and 90pts) that will be at least 87pts cheaper, thats 3pts shy of 3 kabal units, that is a full battalion of troops from DE.


Also Ynnari rules are terrible as an army right now.

I absolutely abhor the idea of having to take special characters to use an army, regardless of how strong or weak said special characters are.

And Ynnari are even worse because every bloody detachment requires a Ynnari special character.

The only conclusion I can come to is that GW have given up on Ynnari and want their players to do likewise so they specifically engineered this WD release to be so abysmal and frustrating as to put people off the faction forever.
