I'm reposting this from the News thread (my bad), but was hoping experienced players could tell me how my wife and I did with our initial purchases? Other than watching a handful of GMG batreps, we're going in entirely new to Infinity. This game is super intimidating to get into, even with a decade-plus of experience in tabletop gaming, unless you use their two-player boxes with their gentle learn-the-rules missions. Problem was, even with four flavors of those, we were always ending up with a faction we really didn't want.

We had about $400 in store credit burning a whole in our pockets, but the store's inventory was also super incomplete so here's what we picked so we'd have plenty of options, even at 300pts.

Ariadna:

USAriadna Pack Box (comes with terrain and probably 150pts of assorted stuff and werewolves!)

Box of two Tankhunters (because I loved the silly man-portable autocannon)

One Veteran Kazak w/hmg

One pack of two SAS

One Blackjack w/Sniper Rifle

One Foxtrot Ranger Sniper

One generic Ariadna starter (so generic Line Kazaks, etc...)

Wife picked Nomads...

One Gecko Squad of two

Two Gecko Pilots

Taskmaster Bakunin SWAST Team w/Koalas???

One box of Riot Grrls

One Moron Masai Hunter

One box of Reverend Moiras

One Reverend Healer

One Reverend Custodier

So how did we do, purely winging it?

I just did a big PM, but they're mostly fine. Nomads might want to get some more goobers, they have a lot of elite choices that will hurt you bad, but also hurt to lose since each model lost is a significant amount of what she'll have. I'd say the only wasted purchase was the second Gecko pilot, pilots rarely get out of the robots in most games, and having 2 get out at once is going to be incredibly rare. Still, proxy rules are very lenient, and they can easily be used as other profiles

Well, we specifically bought one of the Broken Lizard ones mostly because she wanted to paint it. ;-)

I took your advice and actually just order a Bakunin starter and box of Morlocks to even out our options! Thanks again.

As a general rule of thumb, the boxes of multiples of the same unit type work out better in Sectorials than vanilla armies. I mostly know Nomads, so I'll focus there. The Nomad set has some solid Bakkunin link team options now (Riot Girls/Moiras/Moderators) with a Swast anchor. I'd look to add some Zeros and Zoe & Pi-Well as they're really good in general.

For the non-Bakkunin stuff (Geckos, Masai), they're still pretty solid in a vanilla force, but I'd look to pick up an Interventor to get the proper Nomad experience. Overall though everything you've got there looks pretty solid..

As a general rule of thumb, boxes of multiples of the same unit type work out better period.

The boxes are where they gate off the specials that you tend to want for Link Teams or in some instances as solo pieces. There's options to split-box, but then you're stuck waiting for certain items because nobody buys the others.

Not sure that’s true, at least not in vanilla nomads. My go to list there is almost devoid of models sold in multi packs outside of a pair of Jaguars.

Well, we've apparently got enough staples and options to try a variety of lists, and go from there. I admit, purely aesthetically I am dying for an excuse to get/paint stuff like the new Nomad girl on Transformer motorcycle. :-p

Heyyyyyy there, friend-to-the-south Adriel up here has gotten (back?) into Infinity and is headed into a Mero crew, and I recently picked up Spiral Corps since my Shasii are all ancient and I don't feel like recollecting them right now. I'm pretty strapped for hobby time until Nov-Dec, but hoping to get the Corps up and running and back into INF. Definitely by N4 if not sometime in N3's twilight.

Hey man! It would be great to get to game with you again, and more on the regular. Nikki and I have gone pretty hard at the game so far, finally getting in a good mental hobby place where we play what we like, paint models we enjoy, etc... Its been awesome, and I know you are always a "follow your heart" advocate.

We actually also picked up a few items today at a lot sale. Adding to our growing painting backlog are...

Ariadna:
Uxia McNeil w/Boarding Shotgun (though I really want to paint her other model)

The other Blackjack so I own both versions (I adore the models)

Nomad:
Lizard (mostly because Nikki wanted it so she could actually use her Lizard pilot)

Box of the basic Zonds

Carlota Kowalsky and Moriarty
