Hey Folks,

So this will be the first table top game with the family trying to get them interested. I bought the soul wars started kit and am building out some scenery and a table. I was going to have a character whom the campaign and narrative is told/played through (which is female since I have all daughters). There is a female Knight Incantor in the set who could prove to be a great starting model. My plan was to treat it sort of like dungeons & dragons meets warhammer and that incantor will eventually become Alarielle the Everqueen through some kind of magical something and progress in various in between stages until she gets to goddess state.

I found a cool fantasy map generator: https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/ to help with setting the story in a realm.

Does anybody have experience running a sort of hybrid game of this nature? I planned to have a laminated map on the wall with stickers depicting control of various factions over the realm(s). I'm mostly looking for tips, hints, ideas, suggestions, insights etc.

Here is what I've got for the first game of the narrative/campaign. This first game should also serve as basic introduction to the rules of the game; so not shooting for a lot of models and complexities here.

Back Story
"
In the remote realm of Yelia, there is a small village by the name of Gnoll's Grove. Rumors have been spreading from this village and into the surrounding areas of vengeful spirits who have recently taken residence in the surrounding woodlands terrorizing and even murdering those who stray too far from the path. These rumors have spread all the way to Lord Alaric Adelram, the Lord Arcanum of this realm. As such, he has dispatched a small contingent of storm cast led by Brianna Byrne (our protagonist) to investigate the presense of these horrors and dispatch of them clearing the trade routes again.

Upon arriving at Gnoll's Grove, Brianna learns of a doctor who lived in a remote part of the village and had been thought to be experimenting beyond his craft and into dark magics. It is rumored that he could on some nights be seen wandering the grave yard and even attempting to cast magics over the dead. Most recently, a family had fallen ill had gone to see the doctor. Over the course of a week the entire family had become more and more ill with no sign of recovering until they fell dead. They were buried that evening. That same evening was the last evening anybody had seen the doctor
"

Game Play
My plan was to set up the 4'x4' board with a small house built into the side of a hill and a few forest pieces making some paths leading to the house. Brianna (protaganist), 8 sequitors & 5 castigators would be deployed at the edge of the board on the path, far from the house. Upon reaching the house, the guardian of souls (doctor) and 10 chainrasps would appear. Upon getting them to half strength, 5 glaivewraith stalkers would enter from a random board edge.

Closing Story
"
Upon defeating the final night haunt, it was clear to Brianna that there was far more evil happening within this doctor's house than anybody had thought. She enters the home. Inside she discovers a secret door in the floor. She orders one of her sequitors to open the door. Upon opening the door, a burst of green blue flames erupt from the door knocking the entire contingent back 20 yards. The entire house becomes engulfed in a circular flame which forms into a portal to the underworld. Stepping through the portal is a large ghastly knight riding an unimaginably large and evil steed of pure evil. Armies of ghosts begin to pour through the unearthly portal. The large knight notices the fallen storm cast and begins to ride towards Brianna, his eyes glowing in flames of evil. Brianna, in an instinctive reaction of self preservation manages to cast a spell of teleportation upon herself and the storm cast immediately around her.

Brianna finally awakens at the hall of the lord arcanum. He appears as he commanded to be summoned the instant Brianna regained conciousness. Brianna tells the tale of what had unfolded in that remote village. A portal to the underworld has been formed and death has come to their realm.
"

Progressing
Obviously, I want them to win the first game, from here on out its going to ramp up and become more challenging. On the map of the realms, Yelia will be controlled by the night haunt after this battle. Then the next part of the story I have not come up with, but it should be well flavored. Perhaps the lord arcanum commands Brianna to seek assistance from a neighboring lord? Perhaps he sends her on scouting missions? Perhaps to obtain an object or objects of magical power? Perhaps to "light the beacons"? Perhaps to capture one of the gostly combatants?

Thanks!
