Hi,

i ´m quite new with the genestealer cult. So i appreciate some tactica advise

This is what i ve in mind with the miniatures that i own:

Bataillon detachment 5CPS +3 CPs battleforged
Rusted claw

HQ

Patriarch with familiar and the amulet of voidwyrm. With mass hypnosis and might from beyond 137
Primus 75
Jackal alphus 70

CORE

10 neophytes 2 mining lasers 74
10 neophytes 1 mining laser 62
10 neophytes 2 heavy stubber 54
10 neophytes 2 heavy stubber 54

ELITES

20 Purestrain genestealers 300
7 Aberrant(4Pick,2 hammers,1 improvised weapon) 190?

FAST ATTACK

4 Atalan jackals 4 demolition charges, grenade launcher+3 shotguns 63

HEAVY SUPPORT

1Lemman Russ 3 heavy bolters and 1 heavy stubber. Battle cannon 170

1249 points

I still don´t have acolytes(well i have only 5) 2 Lemmans are comming for the next month with clamavus and nexos. I can change some characters from the CG and use some chaos cultis as brood brothers or neophytes. And i can put 2 abberants more with hammer(and the hypermorph with hammer)

My idea of playing the army.:
Genestealer and aberrants with primus, patriarch and the unit with 2 mining lasers under ground. Appearing in 2nd and 3rd turn with perfect ambush &CPS, having 2 CPs for rerolling the charge. PAtriarch with genestealers and primus with abberrants. Th unit with 2 mining lasers for table control or for appearing close to Alphus for making some damage to a vehicle. Atalan jackals......were, no idea. I need 4 CPS for them but i need 6 for aberrants and genestealers, So, they will wait a better change of surviving with a greater army with more CPs. And the rest of the army in a bubble with the Alphus and the lemman.I don´t knw if i have half of my army in reserve.....if i have more than the middle i will play the 1CP stratagem of deployin thre ambush markers under ground

Any thoughts about the list or tactica? How can i improve it? Mostly thinking in make it bigger.

Thanks for reading and feedback

Hi and welcome to the cult!

So, some thoughts:

Make at least two batallions. We really need the CPs and our HQs are useful and our cheapest troops are very cheap.

Once you get 2 more leman russ, you should really take those three as tank commanders into an Astra Militarum brood brothers detachment. Either a supreme command, or add 30 chaos cultists as infantry squads and make it a batallion.

In a similar way, Genestealers are (sadly) cheaper and better as tyranids. So over time, either consider building a tyranid list for them, or replace them with acolytes.

Acolytes are really good in large units. Either with maximum number of rocksaws and an icon or with handflamers.

Max out your aberrant unit. They do a lot of good work. When they get shot, remove the type that you have the least use of in the situation. Put them in a Twisted Helix detachment, then you can use the stratagem to make them fight twice. And that unlocks a lot of nifty tricks you can use either to kill stuff, or to gain better positioning and avoid overwatch etc... and the GSC army runs on nasty tricks :-P (Check out this video and the ones linked in the description to see what I am talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yXsZFlk6lY)

Neophytes with heavy weapons like to be in Bladed Cog detachments, because that means they don't suffer -1 to hit when deploying from Underground.

As for deployment, you are completely right you need to place at least half your army as blips. Both counting points and counting number of units. With some planning and They Came From Below stratagem you should be able to hide almost everything from your opponent during deployment. I usually have mostly broodbrothers and a magus on the table during the first turn. (after using They Came From Below on three expensive units) They hide behind terrain. Possibly I have a dangerous unit that I place at the back and protect with Lurk In The Shadows stratagem and either advance in cover or use Return To The Shadows on.

Oh, and before you go out and buy anything: Wait a few weeks, there is an update/FAQ coming in september, and it might change some important rules for us.

So, that's top of my head. Feel free to ask stuff :-)

Hi!

Thanks for your tips, they are really good ones.

I will make a 2nd bataillon soon. I was thinking in use brood brothers in that bataillon and became 4 armed emperor. The infantry doesn´t get any benefits, but the aberrants will charge easily......but thats the only benefit. Maybe Twisted Helix as you said or Pauper Princes are better. And with the brood brothers units i will have a heavy weapons team. With 3 units of brood brothers a unit of mortars. And they are almost the same cost of 3 neohytes (150 vs 159)

Infantry I like Rusted claw for the 4+save and for the stratagem with atalan jackals(+1hit and +1 to wound with demolition charges) The main idea was cheap infantry without heavy weapons, but i´m going to play an apocalypsis battle soon and they will be useful so i mounted them(later i was thinking to bought another neophytes just for take the heavy weapons from the other units and have 4 units with a heavy stubber)

Genestealer......you are right. I saw an army with 2 units in kraken and thats amazing......but they will eat my army later, so i can´t take nothing from tyranids . My idea is changing them for acolytes with hand flamer and rock saws. And i will have 100 points to spend in something else. But for now they do the job.And they are painted!!!!!

3 Tank commanders......I didn´t thought about that. But i liked the idea

FAQ comming soon?.... ok, i will wait.

The aberrants....i have 10, but i mounted a lot with the hammer, what i saw is just the pick and 2 hammers(cheaper units and a lot of attacks) Maybe i need another 5 to have more picks and another improvised weapon. What do you think?Right now i have 4 picks,1 improvised weapon and 5 hammers

Thanks againg!

Glad I can help some :-)

Brood brother mortars can be useful. Take them in heavy weapon squads, it is better than having them in bb-units. Because then the HWS can stand still hidden behind terrain and the troops can run around taking objectives and being extra wounds for characters.

Changing the Genestealers for acolytes is a good choice. You are going to want two units, one with handflamers on everyone and one with lots of rocksaws and a cult icon.

Start with the Aberrant unit you have. Eventually I believe you will want one unit with 8 picks and 2 H impr weapons, and maybe another unit with hammers :-)

Our army can be quite tricky to play, lots of fidgety stuff and things to time and keep track of. If you want to see some very skilled GSC player, check out the twitch channel HellstormWargaming. They have several streams from London Grand Tournament this past weekend, some of those games include what is possibly the world's best Genestealer players. I believe those games will be available on YouTube as well eventually.

Good luck!
